Peggy:
I think I've asked this before, but does anyones head hurts, especially when I lay down,  It would be easier to forget for a second that I have this if it didn't hurt, the back of my head aches most of the day, is this normal?

nancyann:
Hi Peggy - I have a tender spot in the back of my head that's still tender, been that way for years,  but pre-op I had no unusual head pains - only post op headaches (expected) that have since disappeared.

tony:
We have own resident "Headache Wizard" who I am sure
will have some ideas - meantime a few thoughts for you
Firstly it is very difficult to localise nerve pain - ie where
it hurts and why - this is why accupunture can work for some
For instance a "head ache" can be caused by poor air or blood supply
to the brain - this can be caused by stress or bad posture
So you sit at the "wrong" angle or whatever - you get a headache
If you spend more time attending to comfort or stress
levels - and the headaches go - you have an answer
Equally eye-strain can cause headaches
- maybe TV too far away - or on too long ?
The point I am making is the pain-killer is not always
the simple solution - it treats the symptom
not the actual cause ?
Might be worth making a note as to when
and how they happen - is there a pattern here ?
just a thought
best regards
tony

Peggy, my husband was diagnosed with an AN in May and he had complained with the back of his head hurting months before he was diagnosed. He doesn't complain as much now. Also a severe throbbing behind his AN ear.

I have a hard time believing the 3 doctors (1 ENT & 2 Neurosurgeons) who told me "these things don't cause headaches." I have an occasional sharp shooting pains in the back of my head that just come out of the blue. I describe them as feeling like getting "carpet shocked". Meaning that each jab only lasts about that long. I will get several jabs a minute for about 10 minutes. Then it will just stop, and I may not feel it again for weeks. I have had these both prior and post treatment. I also get a "numb" feeling back there once in a while, as well. Funny, I only have these feelings on my AN side.
