Title: eye burning, tearing
Post by: am2lady on April 18, 2014, 08:06:12 pm
For the past couple of days my left eye has been burning and it's tearing up..that's the side I have the AN on. Has anyone experienced this with an AN? If so, is there anything that I can do about it?

The nerves that control tears run through the facial nerve to the brain. AN's clearly affect tear production, either too many tears or too few. You should discuss this with your physician to get specific answers to your questions and find out how to best deal with it.

I won't be able to get to a dr. until beginning of May. Should I go to urgent care? Or, is there just nothing I can do and just deal until I see my dr,.

Can you call your doctor's office and see if a physicians's ass't or nurse practitioner can't speak with you about the problem and what you might do about it between now and your app't to see the doctor? I have always found these assistants helpful.

The problem is that I'm not insured until May 1st. If it gets really bad, I'll just go to urgent care. Thanks for replying.

I have no idea why your eye would be burning and tearing.  My eye doesn't tear which of course causes burning unless I use ointment.  You might want to try using drops or ointment to lessen the burning tell you can see a doctor.  Use only those that are preservative free as the others will end up irritating you after a bit.  The ointment will make your vision blurry but hopefully lessen the burning.  Let us know how your are doing.  Jill

I would also say that you have dry eye.     The products to use are at all drug and Walmart type stores.     It would be ok to start using some now and see if that helps.    there are several brands and some may work better for you than others.     Refresh is my favorite.    I would try the gel lubricant at first but also then the heavier liquigel ones.      It could even take a couple days of use to make it feel better.        I never have had a problem with the ones with preservative in it but many do.             You can use what ever you try as often as you want.    You will end up with some blurred vision with the tube gel but less with eventual liquigel use.      This is all important to prevent damage to the cornea.     Dry eye does not bother all prior to treatment but we all vary.          Hope this helps.
