Title: Residual Tumor Left On Facial Nerve
Post by: surfagain on September 30, 2017, 04:01:55 pm
My doctors left behind a fairly big size portion of the tumor on my facial nerve to avoid severing it. I've had the 1.5 year post op MRI and it has not grown, but I'm pretty sure the size remaining is larger than a lot of Watch and Waits on this site. Anyone with experience with this please share.

Questions:
If the tumor grows, what are the difficulties and how does it growing on the facial nerve differ from when it is growing on the acoustic nerve?
Any upside to having radiation done now and any downside to waiting?

Thank you

With 98% of a 4.3 cm tumor removed, I would imagine that thee is very little tumor left near the facial nerve. How large is the remainder? If it's not growing, why consider intervention?

From what I understand, any tumor left near the facial nerve is unlikely to grow since it has a poor blood supply.

That's a good size to have, especially if its not growing.
