Title: this week (8/23) in he peripatetic world of AN
Post by: Keri on August 23, 2009, 08:10:47 pm
Peripatetic... isn't that a cool word? I've never heard of it until I read it in an article today. I have no idea who it would apply to in our AN world... who's our resident travelling philosopher?

First of all, thank you to Rich for doing the updates last week. I had an exhausting weekend and fell asleep before I hit the computer. I woke up two times during the night and thought 'I really need to do that update'. Rich will be doing them more after this week. I'll help out when he needs it.

Here's what's up this week:
Monday
Lholl36233 (laura) has a consultation with Dr Mc Kenna. I’ve read your posts, Laura, and it seems like you’ve got a lot of questions that need to be answered, and I hope Dr. Mc Kenna is very informative and helpful to you.

Tuesday
Happy Birthday Jo (tenai) ! I hope it’s a great one. Isn’t 50 the new 30, or whatever?
Have any big plans? I hope your next half century is wonderful!

Wednesday
Melinda has translab surgery at House in LA. From what I’ve read, you’ve done your research over a period of time and came to your decision, and I hope all goes smoothly and your recovery uncomplicated. We’ll have you in our thoughts and prayers.

Thursday
Well, there’s nothing on the calendar, so I will add a personal note… Wednesday our family is travelling to San Antonio to see Scott graduate from AF boot camp. There's a big ceremony Thursday and the actual graduation ceremony on Friday. Everything's outside and the weather is lovely there - about 102! We're very excited and proud and it will be so good to see him for a few days.

Friday
I just found Noodle's post and added her to the calendar. Noodle is having translab at St. Vincents Medical Center, LA with Dr. Jerald Robinson. We wish you well, Noodle! I will be praying for you. Noodle is pretty new to the forum.

Lois is celebrating her one year anniversary of her retrosigmoid surgery. Happy anniversary, Lois!

And though this is technically next week... Laura (allegro17) will be travelling this week to compete in Ironman Canada on Sunday. Laura ran the Boston marathon right before her surgery in April. Many of us met her at the NE luncheon. This will be her first Ironman and her biggest event post surgery. Ironman triathlons are made up of a  2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride followed by a 26.2 marathon! Way to go, Laura!

From last week’s procedures: I hope Debi, Kathy, Wanda and Helen are recovering well.

Have a good week!  - Oh, check out the pics from the ANA forum last week. It's nice to see who so many of you are!

I don't know how much walking he does, but I will nominate Jim as our resident traveling philosopher, since he is the one most likely to know what peripatetic means. :)

Best wishes first to Melinda and Noodle, for good surgeries and gentle recoveries.

Laura (lholl36233) I hope your consult goes well, happy birthday to Jo, congratulations to Scott, and happy anniversary to Lois.

Laura (allegro17), I don't what to say. I can't imagine doing a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run, even with a month of rest in between. Doing them all in one day? Get outta here. What an inspiration to those who wonder if athletics is possible after ANs. Apparently it is. Have a great race, Laura.

We'd like to send our thoughts and prayers out to Melinda, and Noodle this week for successful surgeries.

Laura, don't be afraid to ask all the questions you have Monday in Boston.  Remember, there are no stupid questions.

Happy Anniversary Lois as you celebrate one year since becoming a Postie.

Happy Birthday Jo

Go get them Laura (allegro17).  Have a safe trip to Canada as you compete in the Ironman Triathlon next Sunday, we'll be thinking of you.

Congratulations to Scott, and his proud Mom ;D  Keri, have a safe trip and enjoy festivities, don't forget the sunscreen.

Thank you Keri for the opportunity to do some updates.

Keri ~

Thanks, as always, for compiling and posting this week's AN 'activities' and milestones.  Much appreciated.

Sincere good thoughts to and prayers for Melinda and Noodle, undergoing Translab surgery this week.

I trust Laura's consultation with the renowned Dr. McKenna will prove fruitful for her as she moves toward a treatment decision.

Happy Birthday to JO- and yes, 50 is the new 30, so 60-something must really be 40-something, making me middle-aged, again.  I think I'll buy a sports car!

Happy First ANniversary to Lois.  As a fellow retrosigmoid surgery patient, I know that first year anniversary is important.  May you have continued healing.

My best wishes go out to the intrepid Laura (allegro17) for a successful Ironman quest.  Her strength and determination are awesome. What an inspiration!

Finally, I couldn't end without saluting Keri's son, Scott, as he graduates from the Air Force boot camp.  Please, thank him for his service to his country - and have a great visit!  :)

Side note: I'm not quite as peripatetic as I used to be, but I do get around.  ;)

Jim

Great word, Keri!  Congrats to your son!

Will be thinking of Melinda and Noodle in LA and watching for updates...

Jo!  Hey, Happy b-day!  Mine's (50th) right around the corner...

And, Laura!  An Ironman!!!  Wow - yes, there is life after AN's!

Have a great week all,

Cindy

Keri .....

Love the word of the week ..... one of those fun words to say ..... and so appropriate.

Melinda and Noodle will be in my thoughts and prayers as they go through surgery this week.

Celebrations for several this week:  Jo's birthday, Lois' 1 yr post-op, Scott's graduation, Laura's competition.  Happy times!  (It's nice when this list is the longest!!)
