Title: Got my scleral lens today woohoooo
Post by: jaqiday on October 05, 2015, 09:22:39 pm
Hi Everyone
I picked up my lens today. I can finally see clearly for the first time in 6 months! I am still learning how to use it and if I need any drops along with it and what to do at night. I am sure I will figure it out over time. I am pretty excited to just be able to finally see clearly. I can look out at night and not see halos everywhere from ointment. It wasn't cheap, but so far worth the cost.

I only wish I did this sooner and that the drs knew that anyone with a paralyzed facial nerve and dry eye would need one. I intend to inform my neuro when I see him later this month.  I am almost at 7 months post op and am starting to see my face returning to 'normal'. Still have no real facial movement but I can 'feel' myself smiling now and my eye feels much better.

Thank you all for the support and encouragement!

Jill Marie - I am also interested a daily use lens, look forward to hearing what you find out.

excellent outcome!  I wish you the very best.  It makes me wonder if our UK specialists are au fait with their use.  I've added it to my memory bank for anyone I encounter over here in similar need.

Jaqiday,  So good to hear that you got the lens and that it's working so well for you.  Glad to hear that you are making a point of telling your doctors about the lens, looks like the patients are the ones that have to educate the doctors on this one.

Also glad to hear that you can feel yourself smiling, you should continue to feel/see changes for a while now.

I have an appointment with my eye doctor on Tuesday to see about a daily lens, will let you know how it goes.  Jill Marie :D

I guess I got lucky. Tricare covered 100% of the cost for my lens, less the $12.00 CoPay for the initial office visit. I’m very happy for you, and what’s better we’re both in the same ‘new’ boat. I’ve been putting hydrating drops in my eye a few times a day just to be sure. My eye doc says not to sleep with the lens in, so I’ve been taking out before getting in the shower ever night.

What’s funny, the new steps in my daily routine have been harder to get used to than the lens.

Best of luck with your new normal; I know I’m loving mine!

Take care ;)
