Hello everyone. My surgery sure didn't turn out like I expected. My face looks pretty good. I am very forgetful of saying items though. I was in ICU from Thurs eve until Mon. They gqve meds so that I never slept right. I was alert and up and at them past Mon. I came home yesterday and slept almost the last day since hadn't slept good in a week. I am starting to feel a little better. Tomorrow I get my head incision taken out at my dr here. I am soon off the meds then too and hopefully will get to doing better. This just hasn't been quite like my other surgeries in the past. Very maddening. I was never dizzy post op which is good and I walk without needing any help what so ever. Some food taste goofy and others are better. I am just glad that I am starting to be around and it is weird how a week was out of my life.
I am even hearing a little better than what I was pre op.
I will keep things posted. Cheryl R

I am still using the steroids for a couple days so not able to sleep as good as usual which is maddening.
I do not have to wear my dressing now and I am able to hear most of what people say so that is new for me. I may not be doing the cochlear after all. I can hear the phone some and the tv so will need toreadjust to it all.
I go dr today and get inciision removed finally. I willl be glad when get stronger as am bored with laying or sitting around.

Cheryl,
Steroids take some time to get out of your system, so hang in there! It is WONDEFUL that you can hear! I am so happy for you! Maybe, if that is the case, a regular hearing aid will work in one ear and Transear in the other? This is just a thought. I wonder what audiologist would recommend when you recover.

it's great news that you might not need the Cochlear and very encouraging that you can hear :)
Although you are getting bored with laying and sitting around, don't overdo it. Take care of yourself; you've been through a lot.

Cheryl,
Just read the wonderful news regarding your successful surgery and steady recovery. I am very glad your outcome was a good one--you deserve this! Hoping everyday shows more and more improvement with your memory--I do have issues with this still as my surgery was on the left side, but these issues are teeny, tiny and I hope the same for you!

Today is my 2 weeks since my surgery. I do pretty good but get annoyed over being tired off and on but that will improve in time. I have no incision pain but some problem occ with the back of my neck.
I am in good enough shape to drive myself to town to Walmart and get out if the house alittle. I am 9 miles from town and a rural road so little traffic. I made a trip this AM.
I get by ok even with the forgetful problem. I function fine and it is just when try and tell others about a certain thing that I do the forgetful bit.
Pretty darn good actually considering that I was kind of out of it for 3 days after surgery and in ICU extra days.

I am amazed that you are back to driving already! It sounds like your recovery is going very well.
Good for you,

I am 30 miles frrom Des Moines and not to where I feel I am safe to drive there though. A friend is taking me tomorrow as there is a special african violet sale that I go to every year and she is going to drive. She collects them too. So that may tire me out but at least something to look forward to.

in my experience, african violets are pretty hard to raise. I love them, but consistently kill them - inadvertently of course!
Then again, I kill just about any type of vegetation - except for the silk or plastic variety - inadvertently. My ex used to say I had a "black thumb" LOL
Maybe that's why my shopping trips generally lean towards shoes ;D
Enjoy your annual excursion!

Jan, we have so much in common - I've been told I have a black thumb too! My husband brought me back a cactus from AZ before we were married - and I killed it. He swears you can't kill a cactus, but I beg to differ. I think mine had jet lag or something. It couldn't have been all my fault!

I've killed many a cactus in my day ;D
We do have a lot in common - I'd say we were twins separated at birth, but I know you are younger than I am.

Uh, yes... 29 if anyone asks.... :-X
-
You're dating yourself - I would have said 23 or 25 ;D
-
Heck, I'm having trouble getting anyone to believe the 29 anymore.

Two words - hair dye ;D

Hey Cheryl -
You're my new role model - 2 weeks and you're driving!!! I have a new goal now! Take it easy on yourself - it sounds like you are doing very well.
Debbi - 5 days postie...
-
Debbi - just keep in mind, Cheryl is not driving in NJ! Driving in NJ is a true test of your driving ability even without having just had brain surgery! And I'm allowed to say that, because that's where I learned how to drive! ;D
Familiar with the intersections by Willowbrook Mall? Stay away from there! :D

No way would I drive in a big city right now. A rural area is much better. I had a friend take me to Des Moines Fri. Sat husband and I went to a wedding. Sun went and visited our grandkids. Did some grocery shopping too. Guess who was very tired by Sun eve. Doing better today and doing some housework.
I do feel very fortunate since I guess I was having brain swelling for 3 days while in ICU and they didn't know why. Never even mentioned it to me. My daughter did later but then once it improved I went to the standard usual recovery and improved just fine.
