My husband had his AN removed 11/04, since then he has had a spinal fluid leak , headaches and now he gets hot spot on the incision line. These hot spots break through the skin, leak and don't heal. The doctor says he is having a reaction to the bone cement. Has anyone else had something like this. The doctor now wants to reopen his incision and scrape out the bone cement. Any suggestions.

Hi Cindi
I've known a person who aquired quite an infection from such. Dr had to reopen 1100 miles from place of original surgery and clean out the wound. This is indeed something to follow closely, not only for infection but brain meningitis. Please ask your Dr about these things I've mentioned!!

It appears I may have a similar occurance.
I have developed an abcess 3 months outside of surgery. I am scheduled for surgery again tomorrow to drain the abcess. Also an infectous disease specialist will be coming to see what is causing this abcess.
The doctor said he has never seen an abcess 3 months after surgery.

I am one month out and haven't had any problems so far with my cement insertion....for lack of a better word. A bit of a depression at the site but that part of the surgery has been okay thus far...

Turns out I ended up with a staph infection. after my third surgery it ended up draining for almost a month but appears to have finally stopped and to be healed up.

Famous Last words.
After two months of no leaking a new hot spot appears to have formed.
Not happy at all by this development. I have been out of work since January (my first surgery) and this new hot spot may lead to another surgery (4th surgery)
Has anyone had the bone cement removed?
