Title: Six Month Check-up after Gamma Knife at UPMC
Post by: Janey on October 31, 2016, 10:44:39 am
This morning I had a hearing test, an MRI and a follow-up appointment with Dr. Lundsford at UPMC.
My hearing had declined, no word discrimination left in the AN ear.
The MRI showed some very slight swelling, which Dr. Lundsford verified was not uncommon.
He concluded that things looked stable and I need not return for one year, unless symptoms
worseneed.

Naturally, I was hoping to hear that it had shrunk, but I'm thankful the situation is as good as it
is.  Best of luck to all you fellow AN'ers!

I've been hoping for shrinkage, too, and I'm 3 1/2 years post GK.

Swelling at six months is expected and will probably recede by your next MRI (mine did).

Sometimes we have to accept stability over shrinkage.

Fantastic news Janey!

As long as it remains stable for life, then I certainly would consider it a WIN.

Unfortunately, most people will lose a lot of their hearing with AN's. Some sooner than others.

I would be thrilled with the results thus far.

Go out to dinner or similar to reward the good results.

Thank you Cary, Arizona Jack and Mcrue for your words of encouragement!  My husband and I
did go out to eat -then came home and cleaned the garage!
