Title: MRI Photo's of AN's
Post by: Dani on December 21, 2006, 11:03:10 pm
I just received the CD of the MRI photo's of my an.  They are really confusing to me.  I think I know what I'm looking at and then find that it is on the opposite side that the an is on.  Does anyone have any photo's they can send that would show about where the an is.  Mine is on the right side.  I got the CD to send to the ANA Association to get a second opinion.  Can someone tell me where to send it.

Thanks,
Dani

The reverse order is quite confusing - all neuros actually look at them in "reverse"
order (as if they were looking from the front)
Makes for some quite strange consultations between the neuro and the patient
When you have it as an actual photo/slide you can simply turn it around
If on a computer - a package like photoshop or similar can make a reverse
copy
Dont worry, you havent got another one...
best regards
Tony

My husband asked the doctor what it looked like on the MRI.  (even though of course, we have it on our own computer)  The doctor said, "It looks like a white *blob* that shouldn't be there."  Other than that it was a professional consulatation.  LOL  I know where the white mass is that doesn't look like the otherside but, my AN is so large that it is easy to spot.

Did you have your MRI with contrast?  As said above, look for the bastard white blob.  :-\  Here is what mine looked like, and yes it's reversed on the scan.

Yes I did have mine with contrast.  Boy, that's a rather large AN in the photo, what size was it?  I really appreciate the photo....now I will try to look on mine again.

The MRI is not reversed, although at first it may seem that way.  Just think of it as a picture from below, rather than a picture from above.  From that perspective an AN on your left side will appear on the right hand side of the horizontal MRI image.

Someone asked about the size.  The viewer program that was on the CD with my MRI images had a metric scale on one side (as does Stein's image above- just to the right of his head is a cm scale).  The viewer program also had a measurement function, where you can use the mouse to click on the edges across the AN on the image and it will tell you the measurement of what you have marked with a line.   This is the same tool the doctors use to measure the AN's size.
