I just received the latest edition of ANA Notes and what a story on our LA DAVID. He really is a "STAR" and talk about handsome!! ;) What an article David wrote, but than we always knew he was good with the golden pen. David's acting career has been side tracked by AN, and I feel "Hollywood's" loss has been our gain.
Congratulation David and thank you for sharing your story!
Your biggest fan in Hamilton, Ont :-*

I just got mine too and want to add how super the article was. Good picture of you and your beautiful daughter.
The depression article is also good and well worth reading. That was not one of the sessions that I went to at the symposium.
This is a really good newsletter this time. The letters to the editor also written by Lainie and Francesco and well written also.

well, I'm always the last to get mine in the mail but.... I had heard that our In-House "star" had a terrific article in the newsletter.... and am looking forward to reading it.. as well as the "Letters to the Editors" you all note.

Thank you all. I hadn't heard anything and I wasn't sure if it would be published. I was sure that Lainie's letter was going to be printed (two LAers in this edition). But thanks should go to Jan as well for bringing up my name to Judy. And thanks for the kind words, Anne Marie.

Fingers crossed until tomorrow....

No 'AN Notes' yet but it should arrive soon. I'm anticipating David's article and the Letters, too. I enjoy a good read.
Note to Jo: you have to join ANA - $40. annually - to receive the newsletter. Go here: https://secure.baxinternet.com/~anausa/membership_donate.html (https://secure.baxinternet.com/~anausa/membership_donate.html) to sign up.

I always get my copy of Notes later than everyone else ::) What's that all about ???
But, I was lucky enough to read David's article before it went into print - thanks, David ;D - so I knew it was a winner.
I always knew that David was a "star" - and talented and handsome also - but this just confirms it 8)
Congratulations, David! Way to go ;)

....bending over to peek into mailbox HELLO? ANYBODY THERE? hey! Where's MYYYYY newsletter? :'(
-
I need to sign up ...
-
Got my copy. Nice work!
In his new career as a screenwriter, I see David scripting an episode of Scrubs. Every time we get the AN patient's point of view, the halls of Sacred Heart Hospital are ship decks, and "Captain" Cox has a peg leg and keeps trying to make J.D. walk the plank. Then Dr. House (from House) makes a cameo appearance and tries to solve the mysterious symptom of "wonky head." ;D

My interest is perked, but will have to wait till tomorrow when I go to my PO box :(
Meanwhile, I've enjoyed reading "provacative question" thread!

Steve,
And all the doctors can wear knit hats!
I think you and David can collaborate on this project! And use all of us as extras! Just tell the camera man to get my good side, please!

p.s. And still no newsletter in the mail today... >:(

I STILL haven't received mine either???

It's amazing up here in the great white north, I received the newsletter before my American friends. I'm a lucky girl!!!
-
I know - what's up with that? You guys must have faster mail carriers. :D
Lori
-
They have to walk faster since they don't work on Saturdays... ;D
K

And I live a couple of miles from the ANA office...go figure!

They want you to have reading material for the Looong winter ahead! :D We just got our first taste of autumn: cold front just pushed down from up there - the horses and I can hardly contain ourselves! Julie
-
Still nothing in my mailbox except for bills.
Maybe the mailman can't afford the gas for his mail truck to get the newsletter all the way down here!
Lori
-
I think its the pony express that so efficient in the Great White North ;) In another month or two it will be dog sled and gosh are they fast :o
For all those still waiting it will be worth your wait. My husband even read the Notes, which is unusual because there were no recipes in it or pictures of the female anatomy!!!
Happy reading. Its so good to promote literacy :P
Anne Marie

Haven't gotten mine yet either :(
But with all the rain we've had around here (kids' school is closed this entire week due to flooding :o ) maybe my mailman is going to have to deliver the mail by boat :D

Finally read David's article. Nicely done, and brings the frustration that he is feeling right to our front door, doesn't it?
And such a handsome bloke, to be sure. Before and after.

I hope this request is not out of line. I do not have an AN (had microvascular decompression for hemifacial spasm with a side of facial paralysis; thanks for letting me play here!) so obviously I don't get the newsletter. Can someone pretty please scan the article and e-mail it to me? Addy is in my profile.
Sara

Sara~
I would certainly share mine - but I still haven't received it!!! >:(
K
-
Yes, I may need a scanned copy too, since I still didn't get mine!
However, I did see our own LA David on "Reba" tonight!! I've been watching it whenever I can to try to catch that episode and I finally saw it and recorded it!! Let me tell you, he's the best looking minister I've ever seen!!! ;)
Lori
-
Got mine here in Colorado on the 5th. What a nice article, David. Your journey is amazing. I love Brothers and Sisters. What part did you play? They should put you back on there. Also enjoyed your piece Francesco. Cindy, you might need to go down to the ANA office and tell them to get a move on it!!!
Nancy ;D ;D
-
Thank you all for the compliments. What I really wanted to write was an us story instead of a me story. I hope I pulled it off. And Lori, I'm glad you finally got to see that episode. I had a great time shooting that. Reba was great as was the entire cast and crew. She really set the tone for the show. It was one of my best memories. And Nancy, I had just started as Rob Lowes campaign manager -- I was in one scene congratulating him on stage for a win in -- I think -- Michigan while Calista was in a hotel room watching it on television. I was supposed to be back after the Writer's Strike but my face was not cooperating. Like I said in the article -- time to move on to something else. But to be honest with you, I am not really missing much now. Times are real tough in LA for my actor friends. The possibility of a SAG strike has really thrown things off here. But for you "24" fans, I think you are finally going to see last season's shows.
David
-
Yep! David, that's who I thought you were. Is Sally Fields nice? She is once of my favorite actresses. And, Rob Lowe . . . handsome dude. I also loved Zodiac which I read somewhere that you did. I am sure you will probably always feel a "tug" with your acting, but it sounds like you are not letting this AN get you down. Thanks for sharing your stories. Nancy
-
Maybe your agent could work on getting you more roles featuring your feet, or maybe voiceovers? Or the back of your head like Charlie, of Angel fame.
Sara
-
OOOHHH...I'll be one of the daring, action angels!!
K ;D
-
Nancy -- Sally is a doll. I got to know her while working on a movie she was directing called Beautiful. She is incredible. But I have to admit -- the entire cast is a great group of people. Rob is very cool. Calista is sweet. Ron Rifkin is a true gentleman. As snotty as he could be, Balthazar Getty is really down to earth. In case you didn't know, B&S is basically the same crew and a lot of the same actors as Alias which shot on a stage on the other side of the Disney lot. I have a lot of great memories from there. It was a wonderful experience. And by the way, Jennifer Garner and Victor Garber are awesome. You won't find more humble people in light of their success. There was only one bad egg in the whole bunch. ???? Which is a nod to JJ Abrams. He was amazing at his selection of good people.
-
I feel left out! Still haven't received my newsletter so I can't congratulate you on your story--I'm so intrigued David! :(
-
I'm with you, Karen, I'm still waiting for my copy of "Notes". I always get mine late for some odd reason :P
Jan
-
well, David... as the official cursed cruise director of that "oddly named pirate ship".... and having just read an e-copy of the "Notes"........ you truly are a "star"... what a marvelously-written article... truly! Pics look terrific and thank you for sharing all you did.
BTW, feet will reach/touch the deck.... just be good so we don't make you walk the plank! ;)

Finally received my copy of Notes!
David, that was beautiful. I am so glad you found your way to this site last Winter and that you've stayed and have shared yourself with us.

Am I the ONLY one still waiting ???
I'm beginning to think we should give a prize to whoever receives their copy last.
Yes, I obviously have a vested interested in this contest ;D
Jan

Gosh, real insider Hollywood scoop! Love it!! David, I don't know if I could look Ron Rifkin in the face and be civil, after all that he did on Alias! HA My husband and I faithfully stuck to the series, even if it did get a little wacky. But, it was fun. "24" on the other hand is fun, but in a different way. Intense and non-stop. Seems like that would be a hard series to do, to keep the energy level up for each scene. I got my husband hooked on that one, too. Of course, they have made practically the entire state of California uninhabitable, what with the bombs, and nerve gas, and I don't know what all going off for the last couple of seasons. But, I loved President Palmer. Hated it when they "offed" him. And, of course, I made a conscious decision NOT to get hooked on so much television, and I haven't seen Brothers and Sisters. Wouldn't you know, that'd be the one show I should have tuned into, to see LADavid. And I never really watched Reba either, even though I think she's a cutie.
Have a great weekend, everybody.

Am I the ONLY one still waiting ???
nope. Someone snuck me an e-copy of it so I could read it..... but well worth the read. :)
-
Glad I'm among the "elite" with you, Phyl.
Guess even being a moderator doesn't get you your newsletter any faster ;)
Anyway can I get the ANA to put my mail near the top of the list, rather than the bottom ???
Jan
-
Jan~
Count me in with the "elite" too...
K
-
Nope, Jan, you're definitely not the last. I haven't gotten mine either.
I am beginning to think Kay, you and I have been "accidently" crossed off the mailing list. Maybe they're afraid we might hijack the newsletter! :D
Lori
-
Hi how do i get a copy of the news letter do you have to join something???
-
Hi how do i get a copy of the news letter do you have to join something?
Yes, as Cheri stated, you have to join the ANA. The annual fee is $40. and includes 'Notes', the ANA newsletter, published quarterly.
Here is a link to the membership sign-up page: https://secure.baxinternet.com/~anausa/membership_donate.html (https://secure.baxinternet.com/~anausa/membership_donate.html)
Unfortunately, delivery of the newsletter appears to be a bit erratic. I still haven't received my copy. I knew I should have tipped the mailman at Christmas! :D
Jim
-
Apparently, you have to join the ANA AND move to Canada if you want to get the newsletter, eh?
Lori
-
Yes Lori, there are privileges in the "Great White North!" and I'm not talking about all of the white stuff either ;)
I got my copy a week ago today!
PS.....getting ready to build my igloo ;D
-
I live in Colorado. I got mine a week ago. Wow, the Pony Express sure is fast out here!!! Nancy
-
AAAAARRRR!!! Ain't got mine yet neither--shore mail sure is slooow out here at sea . Dang Landlubber mailboat! (Sorry--International Talk Like A Pirate Day.)

Great Work David!!!!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Lori -
I was all ready to go with your suggestion that you, K, and I are on the "bad list" and have therefore been bypassed :o
But I can't believe Captain Deb would be on the bad list also ???
So I think it must be the lack of a Canadian address in all our cases ;)
Jan
-
Well, I was going to suggest that maybe Captain Deb should be on that list too, but I was afraid she'd keel-haul me for saying so! :o
Capt. Deb - maybe yours is being sent by carrier pelican?
Lori

Still waiting for mine in NH

Finally Got Mine! David I had the same sensation being wheeled to surgery on November 20. The sunlight was streaming through the wall of windows and I remember thinking how beautiful it was.
You describe the St Vincent Island well:-)
Kate
-
:'( .....walks out to mailbox and leans over, stumbles a bit, looks around to see if anyone saw then peeks in... "Hey, where's mine--SIGH!"
-
Right there with you, Arushi. No newsletter, but did get some bills :P
Jan
-
I didn't even get bills - just a whole lot of junk mail!!! >:(
Lori
-
I didn't even get junk mail. I believe my mail carrier has determined on his own that I am dead. I'm thinking he is wrong. But since Michelle and Anne Marie and (Trish?) got their newsletters one may presume that Canadian mail delivery is better (even without Saturdays). Or Canada is first in alphabetical order over the United States. Or, have any of you been to Cumming Georgia? (Sorry Judy and Cheryl). It's a great little town but I am sure that post office has it's own schedule and the quarterly ANA Newsletter may be a massive undertaking. BTW, I am flattered that 100s, maybe even 10s of you are searching your mailboxes to read something I wrote. For a person who is hoping to make writing his 4th or 5th career, it's a bit encouraging. And Kate, I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned the sun-lit surgery floor of St Vincents. It really did help me come to grips with the surgery. I'm betting they knew what they were doing.
David

No newsletter in Nowhere, Texas...but was so busy today (2 VB games. Firgure Skating registration, soccer game and a wedding tonight) that I didn't even get to check!
K
-
Here in Illinois I'm still waiting - which seems odd since Kate got hers at least a few days ago :P
Phyl - has the ANA considered sending their newsletter electronically? I'm thinking mine would get to me much faster that way - plus it might be cheaper for them.

Jan
Hey Jan,
I haven't heard anything about e-copy of "Notes". I would assume they would send in .pdf format if done..... since "Notes" is for paying ANA members, if sent by e-copy, of course folks could forward on too easily to non-paying members, but... on the flip side... they can be easily scanned and forwarded as well...
I know that there are other priority issues right now (ie: next year's symposium planning, etc) going on right now with the ANA office, but the Exec Director is very very open-minded to new ideas......so, if you want to drop her an email (you can PM her here to "Director"), I'm sure she'd be glad to consider the request and would be curious to see what her response would be.... just a thought.
Phyl
-
Thanks for the response, Phyl.
Actually I email Judy fairly regularly, so I'll fly the idea past her. As you say, she's always open to new ideas 8)

Maybe the hurricane delayed some mail? Probably not, but you never know. Just an idea.

Hi David,
Very glad you were okay with being part of the group. I have no idea who you are as far as in Hollywood. An actor? I am very glad you are here. You have had some fantastic comments for us. I don't have the newsletter. :(
I guess this is a good place to tell our little story. A commentator here in Denver ( I just want to protect his identity since I have not asked permission) had an anerysm and had surgery at the same place Eric did here in Denver. I emailed them through the network he works at and told them what a fine doctor he had and told him and his wife Eric's story. And gave him our number if they needed to talk. Well, they emailed back and we emailed back and forth during the rough times and was a support for his wife to let them know about some of the side effects of brain surgery and the steroids and that sort of thing. And just recently, Eric got to talk to him. I think it was really great for him to have someone to talk to about his experiences and they got to exchange war stories. I think it might be even harder for him, celebrities, because who do you talk to about this stuff? It was a great experience to become friends with him and his wife. He is doing pretty good. And I think he wants to bring Eric to a game and meet him. Eric is excited.
I am thrilled that you are able to have support here too, LA David. How exciting. Now, I am feeling guilty about my judgement of Mark Ruffalo. I didn't really mean to judge but I always felt funny about his descriptions of his tumor. Anyway, it is fantastic for you to give others your story here David.

I'd be happy to welcome people to Ohio, but the weather seems to keep them away. Still...
