Post OP MRI

(1/1)

Soundy:
Before surgery my surgeon told me he would see me 2 weeks out and 8 weeks out and
do an MRI at 6 months mark , another at one year and then 2 years out... I am 8 weeks
post-op today and go tomorrow for follow up...

I got the friendly reminder call from the office and a few hours later a call from imaging saying to
be there an hour early because they are going to do an MRI... I figure it is a mistake and call the
office back... they check and confirm it was ordered...

I know I am probably worrying for nothing ... but I am just kinda
surprised because of the schedule we had made out pre-op... he was in surgery so they
couldn't ask him as to the why...I should have left a message for him to call back this evening
but didn't think of it because I was trying to get out door to see doctor about kidney
problems going on..

just wondering what any of you had by way of post -op follow up MRI time tables...

worrying for nothing in Tennessee... ( I hope)

krbonner:
I had a post-op MRI at 6 weeks, then not another one until the 1 year mark.  The 6 week one was for a baseline to compare all future MRIs against.

So not a reason to worry in itself, I'd say.   :)

Soundy:
thanks... it just kinda took me by surprise since we didn't discuss it...
I have some issues going on related to lupus and I am in a worry mode...
First thing that popped to mind was did they see something
that they didn't tell me about...

Jim Scott:
Hi, Soundy:

For whatever it may be worth: my neurosurgeon ordered an MRI immediately following my surgery to determine how much of the tumor he had actually removed (about 40%).  I had another MRI prior to planned FSR treatments, three months later, to help the surgeon and the radiation oncologist he worked with 'map' the tumor for FSR, then another MRI immediately following completion of the FSR treatments.  I had a 'new' MRI in April as a 'baseline' and another in June, because the April scan appeared to show growth, although it was simply tumor swelling due to the radiation - and perfectly normal, just as I had suspected.  My neurosurgeon is very conservative and just wanted to be absolutely certain.  Some doctors are like that.  Another MRI, in late June, confirmed that the tumor had actually shrunk and showed clear signs of necrosis.  This was great news.  In all, I underwent a total of 5 MRI scans, post-op.

My point is that doctors, like patients, are individuals, with their own way of doing things.  While your doctor may want to view a 'new' MRI just to see how much of the tumor he removed, he may have some other motive, but not necessarily one that involves a problem, especially if you're not reporting any symptoms.  I seriously doubt your doctor is withholding any vital, negative information from you.

I trust that this has been resolved, by now.

Soundy:
I had and MRI immediately after surgery and it appeared 100% gone

I trust my surgeon and don't in lucid moments think he is hiding anything
but dealing with a rheumy that will not release blood work done for a
new one to compare any changes and has flip flopped back and forth
on if I indeed have lupus or it's cousin MCTD ...

Kinda having a paranoid moment when I typed...

MRI today looked good ...there is a tiny pocket of fluid
since there is no leakage he is just letting it reabsorb will just reabsorb...
Go back in Dec for 6 months MRI...or sooner should anything drastic come up...

All the little irritating things from eyes not focusing , eye closing when
I yawn and funny taste in my mouth he says are normal abnormalities and
should fade over time ... and also warned me some may not...
