Title: Eye Pain
Post by: gman100 on March 28, 2010, 01:51:46 pm
My eye has hurt off and on since I had facial paralysis. Some days is hurts, other times it doesn't hurt for two weeks. It seems totally random, it doesn't matter how much gel I put in my eye, how often I do gel it, or how well I tape it at night. After all this time it really does just seem totally random. Does anyone do something about this? Has anyone been prescribed some pain killer that works for this? I've been told by the doctor that there is "nothing more" that can be done, but I'm really wondering. Now and again it just freakin' hurts all day and it makes me miserable. The eye will be totally white and look awesome but it stings pretty bad all day.

Cheers!

Hi gman:  I do get eye burning - for me it's due to my cornea getting dry.  I use Refresh PM exclusively - drops & gels don't work for me.  Even though I use ointment alot, I still get the burning.
When I get the burning all day, I always go to my ophthalmologist & sure enough the eye is getting even drier & my doc reminds me to blink hard (since my eye doesn't
blink even with the weight), & I have to put ointment in even more frequently.  Also, if it's a non-humid day it makes it worse.
I also use a moisture chamber every night to really keep my eye moist & prevent my eyeball from rubbing on the pillow when I sleep (since my eye stays open all night due to laying down).
I don't have any other suggestions for you then to use the eye ointment, gel, etc. more frequently.  Hope this helps.
Always good thoughts,  Nancy
