Title: Surgery on Feb. 22nd
Post by: lisav on February 10, 2016, 07:09:29 am
My translab surgery is scheduled for Feb. 22 at Tampa General with Dr. Agazzi and Dr. Allen. My tumor grew from 1.6 cm in August to 2.2 cm on January 18th! I have tons of different emotions right now........very nervous but want this thing out! I have total confidence in Dr. Agazzi and Dr. Allen and both have made me feel very comfortable and have answered all of my questions.............even the crazy ones!

I asked Dr. Agazzi's nurse about wearing contacts/glasses after surgery. I am assuming I won't be wanting to put contacts in and am not sure if I will be able to wear glasses because of where the incision is? The nurse said I should be okay or I could remove and arm.  Has anyone had any issues with wearing glasses or contacts right after surgery?

Does anyone have any suggestions about anything specific I should bring to the hospital that helped you?

Hi Lisa,
I removed the arm of my glasses so I could wear them at the beginning. For Middle Fossa - the incision goes right behind your ear, so it was helpful not to have to worry about it. Not sure exactly where the incision is for translab, but you will probably want to remove the arm just in case.

I don't remember when I started wearing my contacts again - probably a week or 2 after, once I started feeling recovered and had a reason to shower and get dressed. I was taking frequent naps though, so glasses were better in the beginning.

The other thing I would suggest to bring: a robe (I wore 2 hospital gowns (1 backwards) so both sides were covered when I walked around)

Good luck!!

I had my son bring me my MacBook when I got out of the ICU and during my three weeks of inpatient rehab, wrote an 80,000 word manuscript that was published a few years later: “Deep Cover - A Stark Affair”

Take Care  ;)

thanks for posting this, because i came on this morning to post the same thing.  :)  (my son's translab at house is tuesday.)  did some research online, but a lot of the recommendations probably aren't going to be useful (earphones, reading material :)).

i hope your procedure goes well, and i wish you a speedy and smooth recovery!
