well, I had my 4 yr head MRI done tonight (in prep for my AN and Chiari appt on Feb 5).
I took at look at my MRI films before the docs did. (hence the subject line, "I did a no-no")
If what I saw is what I think I saw.....
I'm a VERY happy camper. ;D
My "brain booger" looks smaller, lots of darkness to it, looks more like a "blob" then last time.
Let's see what the trained professional eyes say but....
me thinks I read the films correctly.
Continued wellness wishes to everyone with their treatments... and hoping that "done deal" continues for all.

Well, as you know, I'm no doctor, but your diagnosis works for me.
Congrats, Phyl ;D

I sure don't see a no no. I see a hoo-rah. I don't see anything wrong with looking at films ahead of the doctors. In fact it has become a hobby. I had a kidney stone once and had everything figured out ( once I got them right side up ) and just sat there gleaming that I knew what the doc was going to say. One of these days I will just give them my interpretation first. Oh that would be a no-no. Best of luck. I think you are reading them right. Bryan
-
thanks all! Hoo-rahs, w00ts, mazel tovs ;) , me thinks I'm on the right track in what I saw. Will see what Brigham/Woman's says (my back up brain surgeon who's also working my Chiari.... the Chiari was definitely prevelent but..... it kinda looked stable.... I hope....) and then see the radio team at Beth Israel for the final confirmation. Will also have my hearing test at B/W on 2/5 and believe I should be where I have been (over 90% serviceable hearing) based on recent hearing levels.
All appendages crossed for good news. Will keep you all updated for the "professional" opinion. I think they trained me too well on how to read my films :D

Very good news so happy for you with all your caregiving chores you deserve and needed some good news. Do not tell anyone but I do that all the time my radiology center will give me copies of written reports 10 days after they are taken they said did you talk to your doctor and of course I say yes and they give me a copy. Then if I need the films I get a copy for free stating I need a second opinion oh am I so bad hey my insurance company paid them and I did to (copay). Do not worry there are worse no-no's in this world this in my eyes and hopefully others this was a yes-yes......
Best Wishes,
Pat

Hey Pat! :-*
I do the same.. the written report is forthcoming (to arrive before my B/W appt) and will wait to see what it says (the MRI center has been doing my head MRI's pre-CK and post-CK and has all historical films for comparison.... will be interesting to see what it notes).
You're right Pat. I needed a bit of good news and this most certainly helped! :)
thank you for the well-wishes... and for helping to keep a keen eye on me :)

Great news! I hope 'Doctor Phyl' is right! :) I can't tell much from the films but I know how to read the written report (using an online medical dictionary when necessary) and that is always interesting. Anyway, best of luck with the radiation consult.

I also do not see here a no-no. This is the way to do it, as far as I am concerned. It is GREAT news! Congratulations, Phyl!

Great news Phyl! BTW: I make it a standard practice to get my hands on a copy of my reports and films asap....I can't stand the waiting! I'm knocking on the door of the film library the day after my scan-one of my drs here in Maine told me the schedule of when the neuro-radiologists here read the scans. That was a very useful piece of info ;D

Phyl,
You will get the best of news and that's ok if you peeked ::)
Best wishes,

That was not a no-no, that was a yipeee! Good for you. Can't wait to see what your DR's say. I am sure you are reading the right. I also get my MRI & report ASAP (usually before the Doctors!)
Happy Trails,

The doctors know we look at these things! How could you not look? It's your head!
Anyway, happy for the darkening of the "blob" and I am confident your doctor will second your opinion! ;D
Looks like I'm not the only halo-dropper around here though! Tsk, tsk....

Hey you ;D We are two peas in a pod - I always "peek" or get info ahead of time!! Glad to hear good news so far. We are going strong in 2010 with much better medical info so far (sent you a PM via e-mail). Busy watching the Massachusetts Senate race from Florida - it's proving verrrrrrrry interesting.

Great news! It so nice to see positive outcomes from the course of actions we take. Very inspirational to see how all the treatments can have a good result to our AN problems. Here`s one for cyberknife and the terrific person who made that decision, Phyl! Best wishes, Mickey
-
I did a double no-no! :o :o
Original post in "Radiation" instead of "Post Treatment" :o :o
Had to move my own thread... go figure. ::) Musta' been too excited over what I saw on the MRI films!
thanks for the wishes all.. and Sheryl, will check email later. Life has stunk for me lately but will check.
Will keep you all updated for the appt on 2/5.

Hey Seal! Long time no see! :) Century Ride? Um...... will let ya know! :D
UPDATE:
Got the written MRI report... and to sum it up....
"... there is no significant interval change to the previously identified (doh!) 8mm (TV) x 7mm (AP) x 4.5mm (SI) homogeneously enhancing lesion along the medial aspect of a mildly expanded left internal acoustic canal, consistent with the patients's known acoustic neuroma..."
... and the docs STILL haven't seen the films or report yet! :)
Phyl
-
Well it certainly sounds like the radiologist agrees with you Dr. Phyl ;D
-
I reckon you should go for a career change Dr Phyl - geesh, next we'll be seeing you on Oprah!

Phyl,
Based on your extensive research an personal experience, my money would always be on you on the subject of acoustic neuromas.
I am very happy for you and will wait patiently (not really patiently) for the official announcement.
Take care,
Theresa

UPDATE
Well, I promised you all the update... so... here goes.
1. Hearing test.... still at 96% word recognition (what it was at time of CK). :) Hearing remains the same... me likes that.
2. Dr. Claus (my back up NS at Brigham/Woman's), once again, walked in, beaming ear to ear after reviewing my films and hearing test results....... well, what could she say? AN "brain booger" is done. She was VERY pleased to see that the CK worked for me.
3. Chairi 1 Malformation remains stable.... no intervention needed at this time (w00t!).....
4. She left it up to me as to when I should see her next. Told her that since my 4 yr AN CK is upcoming, I wanted to do one more at the "yearly" schedule so, I wanted to do hearing test and follow up with her next year (for 5 yr ANniversary), then spread out from there. She looked at her nurse, told her "Phyl is the boss, book accordingly".... and left, still grinning from ear to ear.
In 2 wks is the AN CK ANiversary, will see Beth Israel CK radio-onc in a few wks, to get his final impressions as well.... (which he already noted I'm a "done deal").... and will put this portion of my AN journey to bed.
Me very happy! So, I thank you all for the love and support..... time to "rawk" :)

Thanks all for the kind words and the cheering on... I really appreciate it. Bloke came with me since it was a long day, knew I didn't want to cook dinner (I'm the only one in this house that cooks), so after the appt, he took me out for dinner and to my fave local ice cream shoppe, which had our fave flavor (Rock n Roll stew... chocolate ice cream base with anything thrown in ie: white and choc chips, mini marshmellows, gummy bears, pecans, etc... whatever the shoppe keeper has in the kitchen, different each time he makes it).
I shared the news with my mom and dad... needless to say, they were tickled pink. They wanted me to have surgery.... I went with my gut (CK).... for me, my gut paid off. I'm a very happy camper.
Thanks again all! Continued wellness wishes to you all!
