Title: Onion Goggles
Post by: saralynn143 on August 19, 2008, 01:59:00 pm
I ordered a pair of pink onion goggles from amazon.com on July 21, and even though they showed up as in-stock, in reality they were on back order. Go figure. Anyway in the meantime I had an eyelid implant and figured I wouldn't need them after all.

Today I drove up to Columbia, and on the way home my eye got really dry and itchy. By the time I got home I was ready to slather on some Refresh PM and slap on the pirate patch, but the box from Amazon was in the mailbox, so I decided to try the goggles on for size.

They are seriously helpful! I just put in a drop of Refresh Liquigel and have been wearing the goggles for about an hour, and my eye feels much better. I have a pair of ProOptx goggles that I can wear outside in the sun, but since these are clear. I can wear them at the computer. I look like a dork, but less so than wearing an eye shield or patch.

They only run about $20 and come in white, black (with a green stripe) and pink. The pink ones even came with a little tag indicating a donation for breast cancer research if that is important to you. (It is to me. My grandmother died of breast cancer, my mom was treated for breast cancer last summer and I figure it's only a matter of time until it's my turn.)

Thumbs up for onion goggles!

Yeah Sara,
I got a pink pair too! I found the seal near the nose not tight enough to create that moisture chamber I had hoped for... still good though.
Yeah for comfort!!!!!!

We're going to start a new fashion trend with all of these pink goggles. Once we all have a pair, we should post pictures.

Debbi -- I didn't even know the goggles supported breast cancer research until I got them -- a pleasant bonus. I have all sorts of breast cancer awareness gear -- jeans, flip flops, tee shirts, cookbooks, post-it notes, highlighters and sharpies, ice cream scoop, spatulas, even a toothbrush. My 20-year-old daughter usually finds something new and exciting for my Christmas present. Fortunately pink is my favorite color. There is a great shopping site at http://shop.thebreastcancersite.com/store/site.do?siteId=224&origin=EEG_0818_H_B_f but unfortunately they do not carry the onion goggles. Maybe I should make a suggestion.

Okay, so I just ordered my pink onioin goggles.  I'm not goign to mention this to Willie - will just surprise him by wearing them when he comes home from work!   ;D  Kind of like when I sprung the Freudian slippers on him.

Thanks for the link for the other "pink stuff" Sara - great stuff and a great cause!

I'll post a picture of the goggles when I get them - great idea!

Oh that is most becoming, Debbi!  ;D

I am delighted to learn that there exists such a thing as Onion Goggles in the first place, and that they are deemed useful to post-surgical acoustic neuroma patients. Only on this forum can you learn such wondrous things.  ::)

Why, thank you, Steve! :)  Yes, I think I look quite fetching.  Willie is away racing this weekend and knows nothing about the goggles - I plan to be wearing them when he arrives home tomorrow and to greet him at the door with them on!  It will be hilarious to see the look on his face - I can't wait!!!

Debbi, finding still more things to laugh about...

Debbi -
Love the onion goggles but why are they called onion goggles?   I have to agree that you look quite stunning and your smile does look great!  You are getting more movement from the looks of it -- more good news!!!  I hope willie loves the goggles too!

They are called Onion Goggles because they were developed to keep onion fumes away from the eyes so that cooks will not cry while they are peeling and chopping onions. Fortunately for us, what keeps the onion fumes out keeps moisture in, so they are now a (relatively) low-cost moisture chamber option.

I had no idea what onion goggles were either, so I had to google it to find out.  Now I feel so well informed.  The next time someone mentions to me their frustration with crying over onion chopping, I will know where to send them.   :D

I think you ladies look very trendy.  I'll bet we'll see all the runway models sporting onion goggles next season.
