Title: Recommended medication and/or supplements before Radiation?
Post by: JW123 on February 16, 2023, 11:59:19 am
Hey all!
Its been a while since my last post.
In 2011 I had surgery to remove a larger AN. The bugger is now regrowing and this time I am going to go the radiation route (gamma knife).

I have seen a couple comments on here about taking either a supplement/vitamin or medications before radiation to help reduce the effect on the facial movement nerve. Can anyone speak to this? Taking what and for how long? My doctor hasn't said anything yet about it, but there is still time before the procedure (late March). Has anyone's doctors recommended any pretreatments to them?

Are there any other things people are doing to help in reducing the likelihood of facial nerve damage or possibly reduce effect on facial nerve before gamma knife/cyber knife?

Thanks,
JW

My specialist told me not to use ibuprofen re risk of brain bleed (panadoll ok) he also said no anto oxidants as the CK works by oxidation on the DNA of the lesion. Also melatonin is fine as thats a radiosensitizer. I think D3 ok. Boswellia also good for neuroinflammation I read and in a small trial was as effective as dexamethasone for swelling. But chat through maybe with specialist. I have been on low dose compounded melatonin for 4 years now 2mg troche or liquid. Abt to have 4th MRI next week.

You might look into intermittent fasting. It may make the tumor cells more sensitive to irradiation.

I sometimes take honopure for radiosensitisation. Lisa M had success with it.
