Title: It Moved!
Post by: Nickittynic on February 03, 2010, 05:30:51 pm
Is anyone familiar with the Winnie the Pooh movie where Pooh gets stuck in Rabbit's doorway? When Pooh finally gets skinny enough to 'budge' out the door Rabbit is practically delirious with excitement and yells "He bidged! He badged! He budged!"
Well, that's how I feel right now. I am jumping all around the house excited! I was just looking in the mirror and tried to do a closed move smile and the left (AN) corner of my mouth moved! My husband even saw it!
Woohoo!  :D

That's wonderful, Nikki! Congratulations! Many people don't get any movement until much later in their recovery.

Awesome news, Nikki!

I can see you bouncing around the house like Tigger right now!  I remember the first bit of movement I noticed too, and it was a huge deal to me!  My husband did his best to look as thrilled as I was, but I'm sure he thought I was finally losing my mind!   :D

I hope this is the beginning of many more smiles!   ;D

Ah, I remember how heady that first movement was. Mine was a tiny snarl at the side of my nose three months to the day post-op. I had no movement at the corner of my mouth until six months.

May this be the beginning of much more "budging" for you.

Yea Nicki!
So happy for you and good news too. I bet you didn't even notice your headache! (how is that by the way, and how is work going?)
Oops, back on track.

This is GRRREEEEEAAAAT, as Tony the Tiger would say. Only will get better.
Keep trying to smile, every day, every time you look at yourself. The brain/body thing. It will come back.

I was so excited when I got a  teeny tiny twinge of nerve pain after my nerve was cut and reattached. Still getting my twinges...
here's to  more budging for you.
Hugs,
Maureen

Thanks everybody! I'm really excited, especially since I had pretty much resigned myself to needing more surgery to fix this. Now I can't wait to show the doc in March that I won't!  ;D
This small victory is just what my family and I needed. One good thing finally! My mother-in-law said the news made her cry. (happy cry)  :)

Maureen - Headaches are still bad, especially since we're getting our second dose of snow for the week here in MD and weather events make the headaches worse. The first night of work was fine. It was more a homecoming than anything else so we'll see how it goes when my 'newness' wears off. :p I made it through staying awake all night though, so I'm happy with that! Nervous for tonight since we're expecting a blizzard and if I'm able to make it in tonight I'll probably be stuck there through the rest of the weekend!

I'm hoping this addition will give faith to those who, like me, woke up with complete facial paralysis -
I just got a copy of my medical records and found out that before surgery the tumor was messing with the nerve enough that my Hb score was down to 2/6. Then in surgery, though the nerve was intact, it *did not* stimulate even with high amplitudes. Still, the movement is coming back.  ;D
I'm *not* saying this to brag at all, but just wanted to put that out there since I didn't know it before and if I had I would have been even more convinced that it would be stuck forever. Just wanted to say it *is* possible! (To answer my own question from not so long ago..)

Thanks to all for the words of encouragement!

Sounds awesome! That first bit of movement must be so psychologically satisfying.

Nicky, thanks for reposting the info in your surgical report.  I did not think I had any facial weakness prior to surgery but when I looked back at pix from the summer (about 1-2 months prior to diagnosis), sure enough it's there.  One of my eyes was not squinting as much in sunlight as the other.  So by the time I had my surgery, I'm sure my facial nerve was really stretched.  Nevertheless, still estatic for you about your "snarl".  Keep us posted on any new movement.  I love to read those posts!

A victory, no matter how small, is a victory for all of us. Let me correct myself...there are NO small victories. Congrats!!!

Just had to report my happy news that the ENT team I saw today said I'm now up to a HB 3-4/6 from 6/6! Woohoo! They said what I have now at 6 months post-resection is about what they would hope for as the maximum recovery after a 7/12 jump, so they won't be talking reanimation surgery stuff anymore (it was the original thought at 3 months post-op because I was still 6/6 and my nerve was unresponsive at the end of surgery). Yey!
I'll be posting updated pics to my blog soon if anyone's interested.

So exciting for you! No re-animation surgery required! You have your hands full with work and kiddo.
Hopefully you will continue to have more facial movement. Keep smiling!! :)
