Local for me. Joked through the entire procedure with my neurotologist - no pain, whatsoever.
Best part was not having to "recover" from the anesthesia. I could have walked out of the OR if they let me.
IMO, it's the way to go - but lots of patients do it with general, and I know Wendy (wendysig) had some kind of local with sedation - so she was awake, but not wide awake.

Hi Jo,
I had general anesthesia with my BAHA surgery. I didn't know I was going to until I was heading into the OR. Guess I should have asked :P
I would have preferred local, but I was not in a position to argue at that point. Coming out of it was not too bad, although I did feel the effects of it for a couple of days after, just a general fatigue feeling. Any kind of sedative usually hits me harder than most, which is why I don't drink alcohol, and ditched the Vicodin they prescribed me after the first dose.
But everyone is different, so discuss it with your surgeon, (wish I had ;)).

I had general for a few reasons -
#1 - I'm a chicken.
#2 - I have 4 kids and was looking forward to an hour of uninterrupted sleep. :D
I didn't have any problems with it - I was back home that afternoon and felt fine. I'm sure I would have been fine with local though.
