Title: Ear Pain
Post by: BeckyMax on November 22, 2012, 09:47:55 pm
I've had mild ear pain from time to time, kind like a twinge of pain that last just a few seconds or so, and then subsides.  This happens several times a Dakar.  I have been told that my AN is located very close to my cochlea, and wonder if that is the reason for the pain.  Anyone else have pain in the ear?

Hi Becky .....

I do not have ear pain now.  However, before my first AN surgery I did experience what you are describing.  So much so, my ENT prescribed steroid drops to put into my ear, that as I remember now, did help.  I have never used them again after my surgery.

I came across a couple of websites that did mention ear pain as a symptom of ANs but that's about it.

Thanks guys, I'm thinking I'll make a visit to my doc in the next few weeks.

Wanted to update on this.  I called my doc on 11/26, didn't want to just ignore it for fear that maybe I had an ear infection and would only get worse without treatment.  Doc called in a round of steroids which I finished yesterday and will see him tomorrow for a check up and hearing test.  The steroids did seem to help, but now that I am off the pain is coming back.  It feels very much like when you dive to deep in a pool or can't get your ears to pop on an airplane.  I'll update tomorrow after my exam.

Another update, more for those future ANer who may be searching the boards.   the pain has subsided.  Doc did a hearing test and it is stable.  He says this is not unusual, and I see this on the boards as well.  He says to call anytime, don't feel like I'm wasting his time, a simple round of steroids may be all that is needed.
