Title: upgrade from Baha Divino to BP-100?
Post by: Nance on November 20, 2009, 10:32:47 am
Has anyone upgraded their Divino or Intenso to the BP-100?  If not, did you find the difference wasn't worth the additional charge?  I'm going to try out the new model but was wondering if any forum members have opinions on changing.

I think Jan (who has the Divino) tried (briefly) the BP100 at the symposium this summer, but will be going sometime soon to her Audiologist to demo the BP100 and the Orticon Pono Pro side by side with respect to her Divino to see if it's worth the change.  Aside from some feedback issues that they're working out now, several people are demo'ing the BP100 now and have had good things to say about it (aside from the feedback issues).

Regards,
Brian

Thanks for the info.  I'll be sure to check posts to see what Jan has to say about both models.  I have an appointment in a couple of weeks to try the new model.  I really love what my Baha can do in an environment like home but get me out on the streets of NYC and loud sounds on my bad ear are all squished, muffled and undecipherable and fugedabout restaurants.  Low ceilings and lots of noise or high ceilings with a roar of echos.

I was able to do a quick trial of the BP100 at the symposium and noticed a big difference!  Of course, I was in a fairly quiet room at the time, but I was able to clearly hear conversation on my AN side.  With my Divino, I miss a few words here and there and have to fill in the blanks sometimes.  I'm sure, like the Divino, it won't be perfect in noisy situations, but from what I understand, the BP100 has features that make it more noisy environment-friendly.

Let me know how your trial goes.  I might have to start saving my pennies for an upgrade!   :)

Nance -

I tried the BP100 @ the ANA Symposium in August (along with Lori  ;D ) and was VERY impressed.  I currently have a Divino and I love it, but figure if there's an upgrade and I can afford it (yet to be seen) then why not go for it.

I did just demo the BP100 and the Ponto Pro today and posted my impressions on this thread http://anausa.org/forum/index.php?topic=11170.0

The BP100 is an upgrade for the Divino; Cochlear hasn't come out with an upgrade for the Intenso just yet - but I think sooner or later they will.

I asked the audiologist who I worked with today about problems she's seen with the BP100 and she said that so far they haven't had any programming issues (some have been reported here on the Forum).  She said the biggest problem they have encountered so far have been cracks in the processor (on two processors actually) near the attachment (stem); Cochlear replaced both devices at no charge.

Just wanted to add that I talked with my audiologist today and I'll be getting my upgrade to the BP100 in the next few weeks and it's FREE! I purchased the platinum warranty which includes a new processor after 4 years....coincendentally...it's 4 years this week. I'm so excited.

Wow, Pembo, that's awesome!!!

I'm not sure what the price is on the BP100 - or the Ponto Pro for that matter - but FREE is definitely a good thing.

Please let us know how you like the BP100.  I'll be upgrading myself, sometime in January.

The Cochlear website just added some info yesterday about the upgrade to the BP100, and I'm pretty sure it included the price and some possible ways to get your insurance to pay for it.  I only had time to quickly skim over the e-mail I received, but I plan on going back and checking out the details.

Pembo, sounds like a great Christmas present!  Enjoy!

Lori -

thanks for the news on the update @ the Cochlear site.  I checked it out last night.

BTW, how did you get an email about this? and who was it from?

Jan,

I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.   ;D

Ok, maybe not.  Go to www.cochlearcommunity.com and you can register there to be a part of their discussion board and to receive informational e-mails.  I think I signed up for it when I was researching the BAHA.  I don't really participate in the forum, but I do appreciate the e-mails they send out from time to time and you can look back at previous posts to answer any questions you come up with.

Lori,

Thanks for posting the information -- I think I had noticed this on previous "visits" to the Cochlear website, but had never thought about signing up. I'll look forward to their updates, etc.

Thanks again,

Thanks a second time, Lori.

Strange - I'm a cochlear volunteer, but I never received an email.  I don't frequent their community website too often, but I'll make it a point to sign up for emails.

Jan, guess I'm their favorite!   ;)

Lori, adjusting halo ever so slightly.

ok, here is my question, like JerseyGirl (Catherine) my good ear is not so good....i just passed the hearing test for the BAHA...so maybe i'll be looking at the intenso instead of the BP100???  Something for me to keep in mind when I see the audiologist in April

Jo,

I believe that the BP100 can be programmed to accommodate some degree of hearing loss in the good ear, but I'm not sure of the parameters. That would be a good question for your audiologist. And I would also suggest that you ask about the Intenso -- it's specifically designed for those whose good ear isn't perfect, and I imagine (and hope!) that there will be a BP version of the Intenso in the not-too-distant future.

Good luck as your plans progress.

Catherine -

from what I hear from Cochlear, they are currently working on an upgrade for the Intenso - so it's just a matter of time before one is released.  I think they also say this on their website.

Jo -

I don't know if the BP100 can be programmed to help with less than "perfect" hearing in your good ear like Catherine suggests, but it's worth asking your audiologist.  If not, you should probably go with the Intenso.

I looked up one of my earlier posts on this -- I had e-mailed my audiologist at House Ear to ask her about the BP100. She replied that it could be programmed for an average loss of 0-30dB. I assume the "0" means perfect hearing; I honestly have no idea how well or poorly someone with a 30dB loss can hear, but I imagine it's not a very severe loss.

And thanks for the heads-up on the Intenso upgrade, Jan! I'm going to check out the website.
