Title: I did it too!
Post by: Captain Deb on October 22, 2008, 12:09:33 pm: Well fellow AN survivors, I did a huge milestone--well sorta! This past week on Monday I climbed Grandfather Mountain! And I did it all by myself! Now this is one of the roughest hiking trails in the area and is 4 miles straight UP! I got to the spring at the top but declined the last .2 of a mile to the tippy top which is a boulder climb and I will save that for when I have Dr Love with me as I will need assistance to make that last stretch.

This terrain is nuthin but roots, rock, reggae, folks and steep, steep, steep!!!. (The reggae part I added, because I couldn't get Bob Marley's song outta me head on the way up! He seems to always accompany the tree frogs in me noggin!)

Unfortunately the headache monster decided to follow me down the mountain, but I had me trusty Imitrex pill with me which I swallowed about half way down and I had a pretty bad migraine when I got home which walloped me pretty bad till bedtime, but was it worth it? HECK YEAH!!!!!! I got outrageous fall shots with my gazillion megapixie camera that I can make paintings with and I got to share this story with you all dint I??????

The picture is beautiful, and it sounds like you saw alot more of those beautiful scenes.

I snailed my way up--leaving at 10 AM and hit the spring at 3 and was back at the car at 5 :30. Quite the snails pace. Lots of folks passed me on the way up and down!!!

I'm in pretty good shape and recovered well but doing what you did would be a serious challenge for me. I salute your determination, stamina and spirit. :)

Well done young Deb - you got more chutzpa than a lot of people to try that one. Shame ya suffered the consequences of the headache but what you achieved was amazing.

I'm glad Cheri found this thread so I can also say congratulations on this great accomplishment! And what a beautiful place to hike! We don't see all those vivid fall colors in my neck of the woods!

I'm sorry it brought on the headache, but I appreciate the heads up. I'll be sure to bring my Imitrex along when I try hiking again next summer. :)

Does that mean that I could get on the parkway, which is practically in my backyard, drive North for a long time, and get off eventually and be in your backyard? Cool!
