Hi,
Does swimming cause any bad effect on ppl(people) who have or had an AN developed in them.

To your question on swimming, my surgery was performed in 2005 and since then have gotten into our pool. I was very curious about swimming also and my first time I was cautious. I had no difficulty with dizziness or nausea, I went underwater and swam the length of the pool without difficulty. Of course, my husband was there for my first few attempts, just in case I had trouble. I remember the "fullness" feeling in my AN ear as pressure increased with going underwater, but this went away. I have not snorkeled or scuba dived yet.....Regarding SCUBA, my doctor advised I not go alone, of course not! You should always have a buddy AN or not! Enjoy your first swim!

I concur with Arushi. I had no problems swimming last summer.

Phew thats great news, I love swimming and had not done it ever since the first tinnitus symptom arrived. Pls advice me if you wear something around the ears before entering the pool.
Can the AN ppl enjoy a day in a theme park where there is a dozen water games available. I am afraid if the skateboard game would cause any adverse effect in increasing eye dryness and causing pain to area of surgery in the head. Is it so?

You can use (I do) the ear plug made for swimmers. Looks like a "screw" with a plastic tip to hold while inserting. The "screw" part is very soft rubber and fits snuggly into the canal making water-tight fit. As far as Theme parks go, hmmmmm.....not sure about how well your balance is, but skateboarding game??????? You will know right off the bat if you are capable of keeping your balance or not. My guess is you will have to "pass" on this one. Also, just being in an environment with visual stimulation, sounds, rides, people, objects moving quickly, sun, weather, expansive field of vision all at once, will probably not be "your cup-o-tea", but prove me wrong. :) Yahooooo!

I don't wear anything around my ears when swimming. If you have dry eye, I can see (SIC) where swimming might dry out your eye more quickly. Take some drops along.

how bout flip turns?

Since surgery I've been swimming alot and even did a few flip turns. I also took the kids to a water park last summer, twice. I didn't use anything for the ear. I did wear goggles when swimming alot underwater but for the most part my eye felt fine. Before I used Restasis and went swimming I kept the eye lube on hand but now with Restasis I didn't need any extra lubrication.
Go and swim..........

I'll keep you posted. Living in NJ I won't open my pool until May timeframe. I'm hopeful to enjoy the summer in the pool with the kids.

I LOVE simming and do it as much as possible in Summer. This summer was my first post AN surgery, and i did find my head was 'swimming' ;D a bit especially when doing underwater summersaults :P but overall still defiantely ok!

I lap swim daily and do find that I need to wear goggles because my AN eye gets irritated very quickly. The only time I get a little dizzy/sensory overload is when we have too many people splashing and playing around in our pool, but other than that I have no problems.
