GOLD WEIGHT ALLERGY

(1/1)

nancyann:
Hi all:
Had my 6 month appt. with the eye surgeon:
I may be allergic to the gold weight in my lid since it's staying swollen.
Unusual is what I'm told.  I'm not allergic to the gold I wear.
Anyone else with the gold weight having similar problems ? (or is it 'no Nancy, just you"  lol )

Denise:
Nancy,
I have a platinum weight in my left eyelid and have experienced no problems.   I am sorry you are having problems, and i hope you don't have to get you weight re-implanted.
Denise

nancyann:
thanks for the replies Denise & Bruce,
The doctor said it IS very unusual, but 2 people out of who knows how many had to have the gold removed.
The allergist needs a sample of the gold & a material data sheet - both from the manufacturer, in order to test me for the allergy.
I was already checked for infection, that was negative.
My eye surgeon said if I'm not allergic to gold, he'll put me on low dose antibiotics;  if that doesn't work then I get referred to
opthomologists here at univ. of miami who specialize in eyelids (that's who he consulted with yesterday).
Weird, huh?   You're right Bruce, the doctor said this is VERY unusual.   Platinum it will be Denise if it turns out a gold allergy
(I was always partial to platinum anyway.....).      Nancy

redgrl:
Sorry to here Nancy. Let me know what happens. I have very sensitive skin and my eye doc wants to do a gold weight. It makes me very nervous.  :-\

nancyann:

hi red:  My skin is very sensitive too, i had allergy shots for years.
I definitely need some kind of weight - my eye is so wide open without it, i wouldn't even be able to work !!
I hope to get the gold sample & material data sheet sooner than later, things seem to move very slowly in Miami (ugh)
             Nancy
