Title: Insurance with a twist
Post by: tenai98 on September 05, 2008, 02:13:42 pm
I am Canadian but have US CHAMPVA coverage.  So here goes some of my questions once again. CHAMPVA will cover BAHA if I chose to have one.  Ontario will only pay up to $2625 for the hearing device, surgery is covered.  What I need to know if the cost of a BAHA to see what I would have to pay over and above what CHAMPVA allows for coverage.... Also they asked me to get the ICD-9 code and CPT code for CK as its not provided in Canada...so if anyone has it plzzzzzzzzzz forward it to me....Now they also said that it would be best to get it done where the institution accept CHAMPVA.  Does anyone know?????of any??? Do we have any VA and VA beneficiaries on this forum???

Joann,

You should check with Revenue Canada's website.  I remember seeing something about acoustic neuroma veterans and disability.

Hope this helps.

$4000.00 is not bad considering that the OHIPs assistance device program will cover $2625.  But on the other hand CHAMPVA will cover the entire cost as long as it within their capped price.  I'm still leaning towards surgery but my ENT doesnt want to until this damn booger grows more....

I don't know how the Canadian health care system - or CHAMPVA - works, but sometimes you can get doctors to discount the cost of services if you are uninsured.  I'm not sure how this would apply to the BAHA processor, but you may want to ask the doctor if there is some way he can help.

Also, it may be a possibility to combine your AN and BAHA surgeries - some doctors like to do this/some don't - which would bring down the price of the surgeries.  If the surgeries are cheaper, perhaps you could get more than $2,625 towards the cost of the processor.

Maybe neither of these ideas will work, but if doesn't hurt to ask.
