Hi all......
Wanted to start the new brunch thread, since everyone is gearing up for the summer (for the Northern Hemisphere gang.. sorry Laz!), so here goes....
I wanted to time this in early Aug due to some commitments others already have in the month of August, as well as have it close to post-ANA Symposium, since Katie and I will be attending and we can share info with you all from the symposium for those that can't attend....If anyone is also traveling to the "best coast" for summer holiday/vacation, we'd LOVE to have you join us!
So...... does Aug 5 at Maxwell's work for you? Bill, our lovely host, already noted to me that he's looking forward to our return and as for Gil.... well.... I'm feeling those fresh, apple dumplings coming our way (dang, they were good!) and he gives great huggles!

OMG! *falls off office chair, laughing...* I just called Maxwell's and placed a reservation for Aug 5.. .in the Boardroom again! (YAY!) I mention that we want Gil's apple dumplin's and the gentleman says "you wanna speak to him?"... "sure!" I say... well, not only will Gil be there but he has our advanced order of apple dumplins! OMG!! They are prepared for us.... they are armed and ready! :)
Hoping others can join us! What a fun time this will be... and informative as well!

Maxwell's in is Worcester MA. Gil makes some pretty mean apple dumplings! But he has to know you're one of Phyl's friends to get the extra-special ones... ;D

Ok, I'm going to back out of coming on the 5th! :-( It's the one weekend we have use of a friend's vacation condo in NH, so we're taking the kids up for a mini-vacation.
I'm still going to Symposium and will work out a way to get whatever materials I pick up to everyone at Maxwell's.
I'll be there next time!

I heard from Trish (summer) and unfortunately, she cannot join us :'( She is the new ANA Boston Area Support group leader and will keep you all updated as to the next event she plans.....
I need to call the restaurant today to confirm final headcount, so for any of you with updates.... please let me know.... still a great group attending and as I have met most, a wonderful gathering of AN'ers to share their AN experiences and a great chance to get together in a very casual environment to meet other local AN'ers. Hi to all,
Sorry to say that I will not be able to make it Sunday to meet all of you. I was looking forward for this since I'm a Neubie and had a lot of questions. I have been on this forum everyday learning and learning and learning all about this little thing. I had to leave this morning for NY to my daughters because she has Cystic Fibrosis and her lungs started bleeding and had to be hospitalized, otherwise I would be there Sunday. I'll be thinking about all of you, sorry I can't meet you but maybe next time.

Thank you all for all your kind words. My daughter is 38 and has two kids, 10 & 11. She has custody of her kids and is always looking for them first but now she needs to think of herself. She has had 8 lung operations and in the hospital every three months for IV's. With what she has gone through it always make me think that what I'm going through I will make it very well. She always tells me that I told her very often to take whatever comes your way and deal with it and you'll be strong enough to fight. Now it's my turn to do the same with this AN.
Sorry to have gone on and on, but I admire my daughter through all she's overcome, now it's my turn to do the same. Everybody has their own road to travel and if we can travel with FAITH we will all get to our goals.

You're absolutely right Sue. What we are going through is challenging enough to be sure; but what your daughter has to endure makes what we have to deal with seem like child's play in comparison. And she's a parent as well? She is an extremely strong person.
There's something to be learned and respected from a person like that.

Absolutely great meeting Jane's hubby and of course Phyl's sweetie the Cheeky Bloke aka Ian was the guest celeb of the day!!! Poor bloke I think he was a bit overwhelmed by all the attention!! We are all just so happy for you, Phyl as you give so much of yourself you so deserve it returned ten-fold!! And of course always so pleased to see and talk w/Sue, Paul, Joe, Ellen, and see how you all are doing. Jane, thanks for again reassuring me I need not worry about my up-coming FSR at Mass General... and we all got those apple dumplings--Katie I hope the get-away w/family was worth missing those dumplings for!! (ha ha) And we got one last photo with the street car named Desire--oh, no, wrong get-together, I mean the Maxwell's red double decker bus--Phyl said the city of Worc bought it (go figure) so it'll probably be gone at next get-together.. 8)
Elaine and Theresa, it was a pleasure to meet you both as well and as you are in the beginning stages of your journeys I hope we all shed some light for you both and alway know we and the ANA forum are always here--lots of people here have lots of knowledge so pick our brain cleans (like I liked my plate today-yum yum!) as often as you need!! :)

So sorry I had to miss the brunch - would have rather been with you guys than the "relatives". Sounds like all went well and the weather certainly cooperated!! Hope to see some pictures.

well, another fattening, fun filled day, folks... so glad everyone turned out on such a terrific (weather) day.... great food, gawd bless Gil for making apple dumplins just for our table (didn't even make them for the rest of the buffet/dessert table... he really DOES love us! Upon arrival, came out with BIG smiles and hugs and hellos for all.. my dear "Brazilian Nut!" -- He's from Rio!) and for all the love... truly was a great day. Great to see all those familiar faces from past brunches... great to see new ones and looking forward to the next one. FYI... Bill has us "penciled" in for Sunday, Nov 11 and has "guaranteed" us the private room (I had requested it for this brunch a while back but unsure why we got "bumped" this time... will discuss with him as we need that room for hearing purpose)....
BTW, Mary, you are correct... Bill, our host (mgr of the restaurant) confirmed the Double Decker was sold to the city 3 wks ago and this is our last pic of us in front of the bus :( Unknown what the city is going to do with it but it will be very sorely missed......

Only a week late, but my "thanks" to Phyl for organizing the great time last week! I wish it were today ... I'm thinking of those dumplings ...!
It was really great to meet all of you and hearing your stories. What a great resource you all are! I hope to make some decisions about myself in the next few months, maybe even by our next brunch in Nov. Mary, I wish you well with your FSR. I'll be in touch, as I've pretty much decided that radiotherapy is my destination...just which one is the biggie decision!
And great to meet CB/Iain and Andy too! Don't want to leave out the most important support people!

And to update y'all--I started my FSR at Mass Gen on Sept 10--tomorrow is the end of my third week, so 3 more weeks to go--so far so good!! (I'm only half-baked, but then I guess I was before anyway!!)
I'm salivating just thinking about the brunch (gee, hope it's not the radiation causing my drooling--nawh, can't be--it's definitely thoughts of all that GOOD food.).. And smiling my slightly lop-sided smile thinking aobut seeing you all again!!

Hi Phyl--I take the train into North Station every day and then walk (nice less than 10 minute walk) to Mass General, have my treatment, then take the train back to Leominster and hop in my car and drive to work to Worcester... I do so appreciate the offer to get together but guess I'll have to wait to see you Nov 11... By the way, how are you honeymooners?!?!?

another successful brunch, all! I was so touched by the restaurant's warmth and hugs and thoughfulness in taking care of our group. It truly is amazing how much they embrace the brunch gang and I have to say, we are really lucky that they take such good care of us.... and as for Gil, our Brazilian nut....... to think he and his wife just had a "mini-me Gil".... supposedly looks just like dad.... and the dumplin's.... oy! Oy! Dang, they were good.
It was great to see the brunch "veterans" and some terrific new faces... .patticakes, it was great to meet you and Joe.... and am thrilled that Trish FINALLY found the restaurant after circling the area for an 1-1/2 hours! :o.... says a lot about GPS systems as it took a live human voice (thanks Sue!) to bring her to us.... at least there was some food left.
Thanks again all for a delightful day! BTW, I'm wearing elastic waistband pants ... or a MuMu ... to the next brunch :)

Just saw the pictures. Best ones yet!! Sorry I couldn't make it yesterday. My flight left Boston at 3:15 and seemed to make record time getting down to Tampa: 2 hrs, 45 min. I'm walking around outside talking on the phone bare-chested under the dripping Spanish Moss. 77 degrees with no humidity. Satuday night I was playing a gig up in Epping, NH and it was cold!
I really feel bad about missing the brunch but I promise to make the next one in April. Hint: Jody will be up in April around her birthday and will attend but only if she can get two weeks off. Her birthday will be on Sunday, the 6th and if she can only get that week off then I'll have to attend her party instead of the brunch. If, however, she gets two weeks off then she can devote that other Sunday to attending the brunch, if we can coordinate it on that particular weekend. If not, then maybe it would be best to schedule the brunch at the end of April when things will be in the clear for me.

Yes, you guys do look cold - HA HA HA and here we are just south of Paul in Cape Coral, Florida with doors and windows open enjoying our lanai while we sip our after dinner tea!! Pretty soon the Red Sox will be here for spring training (we're only 10 minutes from the park). Sorry to have missed the brunch - will catch one some day. Glad you all had a great time and you've got the calories to contend with!!1

Got a call from Bill Appleby (the wonderful manager at Maxwells, love his accent) over the weekend. He wanted to know if the Sunday, April 6th date for the "Blue Room" was adefinite or tentative reservation. I told him to make it tentative, he said we have first dibs on the room, if someone else calls for it he will give us first refusal. Soooo, what do you all say, is the 6th a go?

PattyCake & Joey must decline this one. I'm having surgery (McKenna/Barker) on March 14 at Mass General - postponed due to Bronchitis etc. It will be too soon - I hope we can make the next one. Thank you all for including us in the Spring; it was so encouraging to meet everyone that day. I hope that I will have 'happy' stories to tell of my post-op soon. Keep us in your prayers .... Happy Valentines Day to all.

We're members of the Museum of Science Boston and there's a kids hands-on class running the morning of the 6th that both my boys really, really wanted to do. We've paid the $$ and everything, so we're committed to doing that.

She did have surgery today. I was in touch with her earlier this week, though I haven't yet heard anything post-op. If all went well, she should be in ICU about now.

Ahh! That sounds like me when I'm in Florida visiting Jody. I'm always saying. "See?" I know my way around!" I've spent enough time there so that I'm very familiar with
the area. They even have Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts and a CVS on every corner! What a world! Cultural homogenization through rampant commercialism.
I have to laugh when I see these prefab lean-tos that are called "Surgery Centers" amidst all the palm trees, shopping plazas and restaurants. Sort of like weird, modernistic field-hospitals. Like Matthew Brady riding around in a Toyota 4-runner shooting daguerreotype photographs of Civil War-era battlefields.

It's been a little crazy here, sorry for not getting back to you all sooner. Yes, we are most definitely on for Sunday, May 4th, Maxwell's is expecting us. I did request the private room, unfortunately Bill Appleby (the lovely manager bloke) was not available when I called with the change of date, but I do have it on my calendar this coming week to follow up on the private room. Confirmed our reservation with Bill at Maxwell's for Sunday May, 6th. I guess it is a busy time for them (when is it not busy, their food is so good), he asked if we could change the time to 11:30, I didn't think it would pose a problem so I okayed it. He is not sure if we will have the board room or a private area.

Tina and I are all set to go for Sunday (4th). Hope the weather holds out and we just get showers, not rain. The directions supplied on the Maxwell's website look pretty simple. Besides, Tina is a great 'navigator' so who needs GPS?
I assume the host or hostess will direct us to 'the boardroom' or there willl be a sign, but I know it's 'immediately on the right as you get off the elevator', as you noted in a prior post. Thanks. I would hate to be hungry and lost in a restaurant. :)

Tina and I had a great time and ate well at the brunch. Phyl was an excellent hostess. I really enjoyed meeting her and everyone who attended. I only wish we had more time together. I'll likely attend the next brunch in the fall and if so, I'll really try to spend a little more time with everyone.

Sorry I'm late in posting here. I've been a bit overwhelmed with allergy problems! The pollen seems to be worse this year. That together with already impaired equilibrium is not a good combination!
It was great to see everyone! The food was fantastic as usual. It was especially cool seeing that Jim and his wife drove all the way across Connecticut up to Mass to attend
the brunch. We had a good conversation!

as you may already know, one of the local ANA support groups in my area (Southwest Chicago) just got a new leader; so our meetings will be starting again soon!
Since I'm always reading about what great brunches the NE ANA forum gang has, I've already suggested to her that we try to set up a few brunches of our own. I'm not sure we'll find comparable dumplings, but I'm hopeful our group brunches will be as successful as yours are.
Also, for anyone in my area who didn't receive an email from the ANA with the new leader's information plus the time & date of the next meeting, I'd be happy to send it to you via PM - or you can contact the ANA directly.

Her first meeting is July 13th and I think she is going to try to get suggestions from those who attend.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the meeting; but fortunately, I'll be soaking up the sun on the Jersey shore ;D
