Please join us for a day of patient education, networking, and support.
This full-day event will include presentations from leading medical professionals
working with acoustic neuroma patients. Presentations will include topics such as
treatment options and decision-making, hearing loss/rehabilitation, facial and eye issues,
vestibular rehabilitation, headache, and more.
There will be time for Q&A and networking
with both AN peers and medical professionals.
Breakfast and lunch will be served.
Registration is required and we are pleased
to offer this event at no charge for AN patients and caregivers.
This will be an in-person event and will not be available virtually.

Cliff Megerian, MD


Cliff A. Megerian, MD, is Chief Executive Officer of University Hospitals (UH), a comprehensive health system with annual revenues of $5.4 billion, 21 hospitals (including 5 joint ventures), more than 50 health centers and outpatient facilities, and over 200 physician offices located throughout 16 counties. He assumed this position in February 2021 and joined UH in 2002. In December 2019, Dr. Megerian was appointed the system’s President, where he led the organization through an unprecedented pandemic. Prior to that, he served as President, University Hospitals Physician Network, Physician Services and System Institutes. In these positions, he was charged with managing the clinical integration strategies, policies and practice guidelines for more than 2,500 UH employed physicians as well as the operations and infrastructure for UH system institutes. These clinical care institutes bring highly trained subspecialists together from multiple disciplines to collaborate on the best treatment for patients -- promoting uniform, standard care protocols and the sharing of best practices. Additionally, he raised physician productivity to its highest level and significantly increased physician engagement and research funding. UH’s physician network includes the fulltime academic medical practice at UH Cleveland Medical Center and UH’s community-based, multi-specialty physician network throughout Northeast Ohio. Dr. Megerian is also a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine, where he was Chair from 2012-2018 and held the Julius McCall Professorship at CWRU, as well as the Richard and Patricia Pogue endowed Chair in Auditory Surgery and Hearing Sciences at UH. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Surgery at Northeast Ohio Medical University. Prior to UH, he served on the physician staffs of the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veteran Affairs Medical Center and Metro Health System Medical Center. At the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Dr. Megerian was the Director of Otology and Neurotology, as well as the Director of Residency Training, the Medical Director, Cochlear Implantation Program, and the Co-Director, Center for Skull Base Diseases. He also served on the medical staff of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Boston Medical Center. Dr. Megerian’s clinical career has been devoted to the management of hearing loss, chronic ear disease, cholesteatoma, otosclerosis, vertigo, and other otology and neurotology issues. As a surgeon, Dr. Megerian co-founded UH’s Cochlear implant program and he and his team have performed over 1,500 cochlear implant surgeries, making it one of the largest programs in the country. He is also an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of acoustic neuroma. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts and has served as visiting professor at numerous medical schools and institutions throughout the world. His research interests in the pathogenesis of Meniere’s disease have been funded by a number of agencies including the NIH and DRF. He previously served as a consultant to the FDA in the regulation of Ear, Nose and Throat Devices. He is co-author of a textbook in its second publishing, “Surgery of the Cerebellopontine Angle.” Dr. Megerian is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and completed a residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at University Hospitals of Cleveland and CWRU. He completed a research and clinical fellowship in otology and neurotology at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He also completed a certificate program in healthcare management at Weatherhead School of Business at CWRU. Dr. Megerian serves on the American Hospital Association’s Health Systems Committee. In addition, he serves on the boards of the Ohio Hospital Association, the Ohio Business Roundtable, and the Greater Cleveland Partnership. He is also Chair of the Cleveland Innovation District/Jobs Ohio Consortium. In 2023 and 2022, Becker’s Healthcare named Dr. Megerian one of the Great Leaders in U.S. Healthcare, and in 2022 one of 8 Highly Successful Health System CEO-CFO Duos. Ohio Business Magazine appointed him to the Ohio 500, recognizing the most powerful and influential leaders who are working to make Ohio great. Crain’s Cleveland Business named Dr. Megerian to the Power 150 -- a list of executives leading some of Northeast Ohio's most influential organizations who are in a position to move the region forward. Additionally, digital media company C Suite Spotlight ranked Dr. Megerian among the Top 25 Hospital Executives for 2023. As CEO of University Hospitals, Dr. Megerian also led the system to attain the 2022 AHA Quest for Quality Prize – the industry’s most prestigious honor recognizing its member organizations for their commitment to quality. Dr. Megerian and his wife Lynne Sheffler Megerian, MD reside in Shaker Heights. They have three adult children.
Aryavarta Kumar, MD, PhD


Dr. Aryavarta Kumar is a board certified radiation oncologist. He completed the Case Western Reserve MST program (MD/PhD) getting his graduate degree in biomedical engineering and his medical degree in 2009. In 2014, he completed radiation oncology residency at Cleveland Clinic and has worked at University Hospitals since 2014 and is part of the multidisciplinary central nervous system tumor and malignancy team. Dr. Kumar also works at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center where he is the Director of Stereotactic Radiation and Director of Clinical Research for Radiation Oncology. He is involved in MR-guided radiation therapy and is very interested in innovative solutions applied to the practice of radiation oncology.
Daniel Killeen, MD


Daniel Killeen, MD specializes in Neurotology/Otology and Skull Base Surgery (medical and surgical treatment of diseases and tumors of the ear and lateral skull base, as well as hearing and vestibular disorders) at University Hospitals within the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He has an Assistant Professor appointment with Case Western Reserve University Medical School. Dr. Killeen is dual board-certified in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and Neurotology and Otology (adult and pediatric), and is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Neurotologic Society. Daniel Killeen is a graduate of Harvard University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cellular Biology (cum laude with departmental High Honors), and then earned his Doctorate of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Killeen subsequently completed an Otolaryngology residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Neurotology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He joins us most recently from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he served as an Assistant Professor and the Director of Endoscopic Ear Surgery. The treatment of vestibular schwannomas is one of the main clinical interests for Dr. Killeen. He has expertise in surgical approaches for lateral skull base tumors such as Acoustic Neuromas/vestibular schwannomas. He also has training in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for vestibular schwannoma. Dr. Killeen has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and has given multiple presentations at national scientific meetings related to the natural history of, microsurgical treatment of, and radiosurgical treatment of vestibular schwannomas. He has a particular interest in developing new medical treatments for vestibular schwannomas. Outside of work, Dr. Killeen enjoys skiing, traveling, and trying new foods and recipes with his wife.
Sepideh Amin-Hanjani, MD FAANS FACS FAHA


Dr Amin-Hanjani received her medical degree at Harvard Medical School and completed Neurosurgery residency training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston Massachusetts followed by a Cerebrovascular and Skull Base fellowship at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. She assumed a faculty position in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2003, where she became tenured Professor in 2011, and served as Co-Director of Neurovascular Surgery, with clinical work focused on treatment of cerebrovascular disease and skull base pathology. She joined University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in 2022, where she currently serves as Director, Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery and Vice-Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery, and tenured Professor, Department of Neurological Surgery Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Sarah Mowry, MD


Sarah Mowry, MD is a board-certified otolaryngologist and fellowship-trained neurotologist at University Hospitals. She is a Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She is the Vice Chair for Education and the director of the UH otolaryngology residency program. Dr. Mowry attended Tulane University School of Medicine where she received her medical doctorate. She went on to complete a residency in otolaryngology at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Mowry further advanced her training by completing a fellowship in neurotology at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. She practices the full breadth of academic neurotology and is an active member of the multidisciplinary skull base team at UH.
Samantha Evans, Au.D.


Samantha Evans, Au.D., is a senior clinical audiologist at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center since 2013. During that time she also spent a short time as a clinical educator and adjunct faculty at Gallaudet University in Washington DC. She specializes in identification and management of cochlear implant recipients as well as providing traditional/non-implantable amplification options. When not maximizing people’s hearing abilities, she can be found exploring Northeast Ohio with her husband and two (2) young boys.
Robin Piper, AuD, CCC-A


Robin Piper, AuD, CCC-A serves as the Supervisor of Audiology Services. She has been at University Hospitals for over 20 years (September 2002). She has also been a member of the UH Cochlear Implant Team for 18 years.
Therese Lord, PT, DPT, NCS


Board-Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist In 2011, Therese received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Cleveland State University. She has been working primarily in the outpatient setting, but has worked part time in sub-acute rehab. Her areas of interest include vestibular rehabilitation and she completed the Emory University Herman Vestibular Course in 2015. She completed her ITPT certification in 2015 to appropriately manage patients post-concussion. She is an APTA credentialed Clinical Instructor and has been a clinical Instructor since 2013. She received the first annual Outstanding Clinical Instructor Award at Cleveland State University. She also shares her enthusiasm for evidence-based practice for the neurologic population with student physical therapists as an adjunct professor at the Cleveland State University DPT program. She has completed continuing education in instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, muscle energy techniques of the pelvis and lumbar spine, practical application and use of Kinesiotape, PT management during pregnancy and postpartum care, and has completed advanced training for Integrative Dry Needling for pain management. More recently she has completed advanced training to manage patients with various neurologic conditions and is a board-certified neurologic clinical specialist. Therese and her husband Paul are kept busy by their four children.
