Risks and Complications
« on: October 21, 2016, 12:57:40 pm »
So I am about to go to surgery on the 8th of next month with House and Schwartz/Slattery. There is a document they sent me with risks and complications which say death and paralysis of arms or legs are a risk. I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of any of these complications or are they just covering themselves because statistically there is always a risk.

There was a person in my local AN support group last year who had her arm paralyzed from the surgery. She was from Grand Rapids, Michigan. I think it might have been because the doctors/nurses didn't turn her over enough during the surgery. I'm not  certain.

Interestingly, when I asked Dr. Schwartz about this exact question, he acted like he's never heard of this happening.

You HAVE chosen a very experienced team and I would feel very confident going into surgery with them. I personally spoke with Dr Slattery before my surgery about my tumor and he is very knowledgeable and caring.

As far as the document and risks,, as Cityview said, there are risks with any surgery or treatment procedure and doctors are obligated to inform you of the possibility.

I think you should feel good about having made your decision with an excellent team and find peace and confidence in these days leading up to the surgery. Maybe not getting on the forum until afterwards would be helpful  ::) ,,,, we do want to hear from you afterwards though,,,

Peaceful Thoughts and prayers are sent your way,,

My neighbor died from a complication of a knee surgery.

Sorry for your loss.
