New and nervous.
« on: November 18, 2015, 02:36:30 am »
Hi Everyone,  A few weeks back, I had my first vertigo attack.  After which all returned to normal.  Ten days later, I was lying on the floor and was pulled up quickly and I experienced another vertigo attack.  Since I had to fly within the next few days, I went to a doctor.  My primary doctor did a simply test and determined I had BPPV.  He sent me to an ENT specialist who agreed with him.  My ENT doctor decided not to do the Epley Manuever on me because he said I might feel unwell on my trip.  I returned to him, but again he did not do the Epley Manuever because I did not get vertigo when he put me in different positions.  He believed perhaps it was a residue of Miclisine or that perhaps the crystals had settled.  Being nervous, I consulted a family friend who is also an ENT and he said that the Epley Manuever should not be done without a VNG.  I've been feeling very unsteady for two weeks, but I haven't had vertigo.  Should I get a VNG before the Epley Manuever is performed?  Thank you for any responses.

Hi and welcome,

Have you been diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma?  Some information here may be helpful and yet, the major topic of discussions on these forums are acoustic neuromas. I have not heard of the test but hope you find resolution to your issue.

Be well.

I had the VNG test after I was diagnosed with an AN
Had so many tests that day... Can't remember exactly what it was. But watching dots.. Wearing goggles. And having various electrodes attached come to mind... It was all easy to do.
I believe if you fail the VNG test there is something wrong with your vestibular system and therefor the Epley manoeuvre won't work.
If you are worried about having an AN I believe disabling vertigo is not common..
Dizziness, off balance yes most of us get that... But not can't get off the floor because the room is spinning real bad vertigo.
10x5x5mm AN
Sudden Partial hearing loss 5/28/10
Diagnosed 7/4/10
CK 7/27/10
2/21/11 Swelling 13x6x7mm
10/16/11 Hearing returned, balance improved. Feel totally back to normal most days
3/1/12 Sudden Hearing loss, steroids, hearing back.
9/16/13 Life is just like before my AN. ALL Good!
