MRI Partially Empty Sella?
« on: December 23, 2011, 03:13:29 pm »
Does anybody know what this means? I had this stated on my MRI last year and this year. Drs. just say its really nothing. I looked it up online and don't understand since mine is just partially empty. Says it happens in obese women, however I'm not that obese???LOL

Mindy ~

I found this comprehensive explanation of 'empty sella' online.  I thought it was quite informative.  As your doctor stated, it's not a real problem.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

A partially Empty Sella can be a problem over Christmas, a lot of wine could be consumed over the next week and if your sella is only partially full it could impede your enjoyment over the Christmas Break.....

Oh Sella......  Spelling has never been my strong point.  I thought you meant Cellar ;D

Merry Christmas to all and may your Cellar be full

I had the same finding in my diagnostic MRI (Sella, not  Cellar  ;)). My doctor said that this happens in a percentage of the population, but is not really a problem. I looked it up back then and couldn't find anything, and afterwards I forgot about it. Thanks Jim for posting this comprehensive link. I might follow up with my GP on this - I wonder if hormone testing might be in order?

Marianna
GK on April 23rd 2008 for 2.9 cm AN at Toronto Western Hospital. Subsequent MRIs showed darkening initially, then growth. Retrosigmoid surgery on April 26th, 2011 with Drs. Akagami and Westerberg at Vancouver General Hospital. Graduallly lost hearing after GK and now SSD but no other issues.
