Headaches with air pressure changes?
« on: May 30, 2011, 08:54:07 pm »
Hello,
So, I've had the worst headaches two weekends in a row.  I truely believe they may be related to the weather changes we are experiencing her in Nebraska.  Everytime a bad storm is heading in, I get horrible headaches.  Last week I spent the day on Sunday in bed and missed worked Monday.  By Tuesday I felt much better and the storms had lifted a little.  Today the headache is back and we are in a tornado watch again.  Storms rolling in now, I can hear the thunder.
Anyone else ever experience this after ANA surgery?  My husband thinks I should call my neurosurgeon, I think it's the pressure change.  It hurts in front above my eyes and then sometimes on my neck where the surgery side is and shoots up my head.
Thanks for any insight.
Susan

Hi Susan .....

I, too, get barometric pressure change headaches ...... but have had them all of my adult life so do not think I can blame it on the AN.

If this is a new phenomenon for you, you might want to run it by your neurosurgeon.  Never hurts to ask and find out, hopefully for reassurance, but if not, get the treatment needed.

G'day Susan

I'd be getting it checked as a precaution.  I've been suffering with mainly a pressure in my deaf side with all the low pressure we're having over here too.  To top it off I've got a bad cold and the headaches (tolorable thank goodness) come mainly in the morning.

Do please let us know what your doctor says if you decide to go see him.

Kindest regards,

Like Clarice, I get the barometric pressure change headaches.  Mine didn't start until after my AN surgery though.   I have been to a headache institute here in Michigan that actually brought those type of headaches up in a seminar.  You should have seen the look on my face, I was so excited to hear it is a real thing.   Before that I had thought it was just me until I read others dealing with the same thing on this forum.     I also mentioned it on my facebook page awhile back and found a couple others (that have not had any surgery) get them too.   Now they also have bad allergies and sinuses and wonder if that may have something to do with it too..????

My specialist did recommend I start using a nasal spray for my allergies versus an oral medication.   I am thinking that may be helping too!   I have a variety of 'headaches' and neck pain, but with the pressure changes it is usually a specific one.

I too get headaches with the weather changes.  I spoke to my surgeon and he said that it is directly related to my surgery and the change in pressure.  Hopefully, it gets better or I just get used to it.  Good luck to you and feel better.

Yup I have them too and it's only been since surgery. I also get them when I change altitude i.e. camping in the mountains and also when I fly. I have noticed that if I dont wait too long before I take OTC meds I do much better. If I wait, hoping it will get better, it doesn't and then it's so bad that the OTC meds don't work.
Left side 3.2cm AN/FN removed 12/8/08 Dr's. Shelton and Reichman. SSD, facial paralysis, taste issues, lateral tarrsoraphy 6/25/09,scheduled for eye and nasal valve surgery 6/22/11 life is GOOD!

I don't get headaches but I think the weather has an affect on my vestibular function. I get the motion sickness feeling sometimes when storms roll in and pressure changes. Does anyone else get this? Or maybe it's just a coincidence.

03/07 - Diagnosed 3mm AN
06/07 - Middle Cranial Fossa approach to remove (failed extraction)

I am awaiting my surgery on the 23d of Aug, but I will say that this has been the worst year for me for these headaches. I have always has bad sinus issues and in the Sandhills of North Carolina, bad place for sinus issues! Since my diagnosis, the headaches have been much worse. Atmospheric changes seem to trigger them and if i took something everytime I got one I would be an addict! My Neuro is attempting to treat with nasal spray and accupuncture. Not so much better at this point.
Diagnosed 4/19/11 An 1.5x1.9x2.0
Surgery 8/23/11, Dr Fukushima.
Total tumor removed. SSD.
Second surgery 11/11/11 for abscess

I'm gona work like I don't need the money
I'm gona laugh like I'm not afraid to cry
I'm gona dance like nobody's watchin'
I'm gona love while I still have the time!

Those air pressure headaches are indeed a real thing!  I can always tell when  front is coming through because my head will ache, MUCH more than a run-of-the-mill headache. Fortunately, Excedrin will usually do the trick for me. Many on the forum have experienced this kind of reaction to changes in the weather.

Thanks everyone, it's nice to know I'm not the only one suffering with the headaches.  My husband thought for sure after the surgery things would be so much better for me.  Somedays I can barely get out of bed because of the headaches.  Knowing that others say their doctors say it's normal is a relief to hear.  My July MRI showed no new growth the partial piece left had shrunk.  So neurosurgeon said all looked good.  I go back in December for next MRI.  Hopefully still good news!
Thanks again for the help,
Susan
