Depression behind ear
« on: June 26, 2011, 07:48:46 pm »
I had a translab performed about four months ago.  Tonight while adjusting my glasses I noticed a "depression" behind my surgical side ear that I haven't noticed before.  I have been washing the area and never noticed it.  It is obviously where the bone was removed but I don't recall it being so pronounced.  Do any of you translab patients have the same indentation?

It took me a couple of years to figure out why sunnies (off the rack) were ALWAYS lopsided - it never occurred to me that they would've sewed my ear back on in the wrong place!!

Yes my scar is at least 1/2 to 3/4 inch deep and at least 2 inches long. What I find interesting every year I have visited my neuro dr he never has looked at my incision. He only looks at the mri. That just amazes me. But he did have to operate on it three times (surgery, then two CSF leaks) so maybe he didn't want to look at it any more!!

I have a deep depression behind my ear from 2 translabs there due to the CSF leak.     I hate washing it but do of course.    Plus my ear is sunk in a bit.      Annoying but could be worse.

Thanks for saving me a call to the ENT.
At my first follow up after surgery I made a joke about my crooked ear and my ENT said "at least I didn't put it on upside down."

omg.....good information, I will be prepared for the dent.  I think my surgical ear is tighter to my head, good thing I don't put my hair behind my ears.
Diagnosed 6/2008
Right AN 2cmx8x9

I thought the crooked glasses were just my imagination! I'm about 4 months post op and have the opposite situation. I have a pronounced lump behind my ear, and raised ridge up to and along my scar. Glad to know it may go down with time.

A depression is common.  I had retrosigmoid and I have a depression a little above and behind my AN ear.

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways

I'm having the same thing starting to happen to me one month out of surgery. Bottom of the incision on the inside is starting to dimple in a bit. I thought it was the mesch settling in or something. I do find it extremely quiet to sleep with no hearing on that side anymore.

Look at that, after 19 years I found out that I'm normal. ;) ;)    That is it sounds like lots of us have indentations and our glasses don't fit right because of the surgery.  I didn't know about the glasses issue until a few years ago when I had to start wearing glasses.  Couldn't decide for a while if my eye brow was higher on one side then the other or if one of my ears was higher than the other.   Finally gave up trying to adjust my glasses as it usually made it worse.  What a wealth of info. we get from this site.  Jill
