Is $2000.00 Reasonable for BOTOX
« on: June 16, 2010, 02:23:58 pm »
Does $2000.00 seem reasonable for Botox?  I have nothing to compare it to but for some reason ~ I thought it would
cost a lot less than that.  I mean.........holy moly..........$2000.00.........each time???   :o

How much do you think I can sell my arm and leg for?  My hair has been screwed up since my surgery or I would chop
that off and sell it too!  Maybe I can sell it to men for chest hair??  sorry.

Once, I saw a man sitting on the sidewalk in San Francisco and he had a jar with coins in it and he held a sign that read...."Why Lie....I want BEER".  Maybe I can do the same thing except my sign would read...."Why Lie....I want BOTOX"!!

The fun just keeps on comin'!!!

I get cosmetic botox for the wrinkles between my eyebrows and my forehead every six months and that is $500.   This guy is ripping you off because he knows your insurance is paying and 3rd party payment they raise the prices considerably.   My friend in Irvine Calif.  got it for free for a facial tremor and her son is now the Sec. of Energy.   Anyway, she got it for free for the facial tremor just because she was a senior citizen and on Medicare.   Botox is not that expensive.   I remember when it first came out and they were using it for Spasmodic Dysphonia on the Vocal Cords at NIH by Christie Ludlow for patients on trials and that was for free for the patients accepted on the trials.    I would have a lot to argue with this doctor.   Can you try another doctor?

He is Unconcienable!!!

I noticed Deb said that her doctor charged $800 to $900 for hers in NC.

I tried doing a quote here from her Botox thread, but it wouldn't work just now.   Go back and take a look.

That is a ridiculous price!  My first treatment was $800 and the second was $1000 and Medicare paid 80%.  My neuro charges $400 for administering the injections (for 5 minutes of work and 3 25 cent syringes) and the Botox is $400-$600.  Is your insurance paying for part of it?

I'm getting crabby.  I think I might change my log-in to KrabbyKathy!   >:(

After seeing Neurologist #1 (recommended by the Neurosurgeon who did my A/N), I called my Primary Care Doctor (who I love)
and told her that I was trying to find someone who does Botox injections for pain management because my head was killing me
and blah blah.  She thought it was a great alternative to taking more meds (especially if they aren't really working).  She gave me two names to try.  I called the first doctor and she is on Maternity Leave and won't be back for 6 months and so isn't taking new patients.  So, I called the second doctor.....took forever but I finally got through to someone ~ and I guess that doctor doesn't
do Botox injections anymore...but they gave me the name of another doctor in their same practice and transfered me over to
that doctors office.  I left a message and the next day someone called me back.  That doctor does do Botox but I would have to
be evaluated by that doctor first.  Fine.  So, I say "okay"....I'd like to schedule that appointment.  The person then says....well,
you did just see another Neurologist right?..I said Yes......he then says.....well, I hope your insurance covers 2nd opinions!  I said
I would like the appointment either way.  So....the guy schedules me for an appointment and says.......what insurance do you
have....I tell him Blue Cross PPO.  He then says....oh, by the way, I should tell you that the injections are $2000.00 and insurance
doesn't normally cover it.  IT'S ALMOST LIKE HE WAS TRYING TO TALK ME OUT OF MAKING AN APPOINTMENT.  So...I said
"okay".  I just wanted to make the stupid appointment.  So...I called Blue Cross (Independence Blue Cross) and the lady there
was pretty cool...for an insurance company (LOL).  She said that it depends on how it's billed as to whether they cover it or not.
It has to be "medically necessary" and that I need pre-certification before they could tell me if it would be covered.  If so and if
this doctor is "in network", then they pay 80% after my deductible.  I haven't checked to see if they are "in network" and honestly,
I kind of hate the doctor even though I haven't met him yet..........just because horrible me has decided after the conversation
that they are idiots....fools.......dorks........okay....did I mention I"m getting crabby?  I know you shouldn't make judgements
about people....especially before meeting them (lol)....but I just felt they were annoying on the phone and now I don't know
if I should go through with the appointment (consultation) or not.   ::)

Trust your gut, there's got to be a better way than dealing with these gangsters.   Believe in yourself.  Can't you get better without Botox?  Can you shop around?   Can you go to Deb's doctor in NC?   I guess that would be too expensive.   Have you tried accupuncture?     Are your headaches every day, every night?   Let me know.

I hate to hear of you in such pain.

Hi Mei Mei...

I WISH I could go to Captain Deb's doctor!!

My headache has been non-stop and it's now made my head, neck and shoulders totally cramped.  I have tried acupuncture and the doctor is GREAT ~ I really like her ~ but to be honest, I have not noticed even the slightest difference in how I feel.  I've been also going for massage which I really thought helped and then last week, the person worked on "trigger points" and well....they must be trigger points because my headache got sooooo much worse after the massage and I've been sick to my stomach ever since.

This crazy Michigan weather has not helped either ~ hot/humid then rain then cold ~ I can't figure out if I should be wearing summer or fall clothes!  lol   ???

Kathy, have you called this place?

http://www.mhni.com/

It's a headache specialty clinic in Ann Arbor.  When I had BCBS they refused to pay for Botox--since Medicare is now paying for it for pain management, I believe you could get certified to have it paid for--you just have to be a squeaky wheel.  I would imagine a sophisticated headache clinic like the one above is using Botox.

Replying to my own post!  MHNI does use Botox and since they are pain management specialists, I bet your insurance will pay for it.

This is great Deb, Sherlock Holmes should put you on the payroll.   Is this place near your home, Kathy?

By the way, I think the Verapamil is working because I'm not having headaches, except when I sneeze.   I just have a pain and pins and needles in my neck and occipital area.

Kathy,

Wondering if you ever tried the place above from the website posted.

Have to tell you how ODD this is....JUST got off the phone chatting with Mei Mei and when I checked my email I got a message from you.   I knew your name & city rang a bell, so I went to your posts and found this one I had read and then I went to my messages and we chatted back in Feb. about the BAHA......how interesting.

I will reply to your message now too.    I just had to go to that site above to see if mentioned anything about my other condition the Chiari Malformation, it does, but not much.

When I received my Botox injections in my face and temporal area they were given to me by my cousin who is a dentist that specializes in facial pain. He only charged me for the Botox which cost him $375.00. He was able to give me 20 injections with this bottle. Next week I am going to my neurotologist, who will be injecting the Botox in my neck and back of head. (My cousin won't give these because he feels they are beyond his scope of practice, which I not only agree with but respect him for this). My neuro doc accepts my insurance for the visit, but charges for the Botox. The first time he gave it to me, about 6 months ago, it was $100.00 for about 5-6 injections. So hopefully it won't cost me more than $300 or so next week.

I was going to pay $300 for injection 1/2 vile. Love my doc.  She is very experienced (Neurologist). She assurred me that this is the "good " stuff.
I saw a pretty scary documentary on counterfeit botox.
